Head Unit Problem...

Okay, here goes. I recieved a kenwood excelon KDC-X717 as a birthday gift. I installed it with the help of my buddy, and everything has been working just fine and dandy, until this morning, when I go to my car to leave for work...I find out that the D-Mask feature where the faceplate flips over revealing a black panel didn't work. Now I have ONE cd in there, and the faceplate will NOT go down and eject the CD. It worked fine last night coming home from work, because I changed CD's , but now its just, well...there. Any suggestions before I jump down Kenwood's throat for giving me a crappy product?

What do you mean? The back side of the pannel wont flip over & reveal the display when you turn on the car? You may have a blown fuse or you could try pressing the top left side of the pannel & maybe it will flip over, or its just broken.

Like Meeks said i would check fuses and make sure the unit is powering up. if it is... then the motors might be blown out. Do you hear any buzzing at all? if thats the problem take it back 2 where ever you bought it from. you should be able 2 return it. If not THEN you will have 2 deal with Kenwood, but some advice would be 2 try and deal with the store you bought it from rather than kenwood. I sell car stereos and your probably gonna get your problem solved alot quicker if you talk 2 a person face 2 face, than if you call the manufacturer. Good luck man. I love this stuff, but it brakes sometimes.

check the fuse in the back of the deck and also check your audio fuse

Checked everything, ripped out the HU and just UPS'd it to millionbuy.com, my fuses were in perfect condition. The final straw was it eating my CD and not giving it back! When I switched to the CD function it read "META ERROR". Hopefully Millionbuy will be able to give me my CD back! images/icons/smile.gif Thats my little update on that one. images/icons/grin.gif
