View Full Version : 15" or 16" Wheels on an NX?

I have a 1993 NX with stock rims. I have snow tires on them right now... I want to get new rims and tires. I found a nice set that I like, but don't know whether or not to go with the 15" or 16". The price diff. is $180 for the whole set (wheels, tires, lugs, locks, mounting and balancing).
The tire size is 185/60R14 for stock and up to a 205/40R16 for the 16" rims...
Is it worth the $180 for the bigger wheels?
What are the downfalls?

The 16 inch wheels will decrease your acceleration slightly. Smaller displacement engines normally have smaller diameter wheels.
The further the weight is from the center of the wheel, the more power is needed to get it rolling.
If you get the 15s, they will probably weigh less (which will help acceleration and fuel milage), but some people think bigger wheels look cooler.
Also, with the 16s, you can get a lower profile tire and not have as big of a wheel well gap as the 15s would.
It is all personal preference.

RWPower's right on the mark. Bigger wheels look cool, but hurt performance. If looks are your goal, then get the bigger wheels. If performance is your goal, then get the smallest, lightest wheels that will fit and still clear the brake hardware.

How would going to 16" from 14" close the gap in the wheel well? The diameter of the wheel and tire won't change, or he'll have to redo his speedo. It might look like a smaller gap but won't it be the same as before?
