I have an 87 200sx V6, which runs a 205/60-15 tire. I want to increase the width of my tires. can I run a 225 safely, if not what would the widest tire I could run safely? Also, I want to keep the diameter the same so that I won't have to recalibrate my speedo, so what profile will I need to run? images/icons/cool.gif

You have the Predecessor to the 240sx. NICE! And so your tire setup will duplicate the process.
If the rims are 6" width, a 205 is just at limit. A 215 will work with 6.5" and a 225 will be max for a 6.5" .
These are all stated for BEST even contact of tread to surface with no rollover.
When going to larger width, the rev's do not change, so the speedo stays the same. It changes
when the sidewall hieght changes. So by dropping to a 215/50/15 tire the speedo will increase the stated MPH. This is compensated
by going to 16 series rims to KEEP the overall dimensions the same.
As an example, I am running 225/50/16 and am ON the MONEY for MPH(did a check against those "your speed is" machines).
Also, the OFFSET of the rim has alot to do with successful installation of wider width tires.
Going to 215 or 225 will make the overall width bigger, which means that clearance to the struts is less or gone.
So keep a good eye on the Overall width when purchasing a Quality tire.
Hope this helps.

I run the same stock size tires on my 92 240sx. 225/50R15 is the only other, wider size you can go without throwing off your speedo. However, preferrably you'll want 7" wide rims though.
