When I get the engine dumped in my current 240 (89) I plan on selling it, then buying either a newer one or going all out and spending $15,000 for a MR2 Turbo or 300zxTT.
But Thats a little bit more than I want to spend.
I want a 240 with the KA24DE now, what year to get? 91, 92, 93 or 95 are the available cars?
Coupe or Fastback? (I want WEIGHTS!)
Anybody have actual weights on these?
The coupe looks sweet, but it seems that the fastback is lighter?
microsoft's carpoint.com has some weights in the comparison, but they jump all around and nothing looks proper.
Please, what's the best one to build upon? the 95 S14 might cost a little more, but is it worth it? I absolutely LOVE the look, but it looks to be a bit heavier, true?
I don't plan on turbo'ing it, thats alittle out of my budget. Just maybe blots ons and such. Make it slightly faster than it is, but nothing huge..
Thanks in advance.....

Hmm, looks like you are in Canada!!! (DRL on the S13)
That makes the cars much better because VLSD are standard all across the board for the S14s, and also S13. It does not also have the pesky motorized seatbelts the US model S13s had...
The lightest weight platform is the coupe, followed by the fast back, then the S14 coupe.
Looks wise, nothing is as good looking as the fastback, (slick).
Engine wise, the S14's KAs are stronger interms of pistons, but weaker in performance. A '91 KA cam swap will bring some of the power back or can go with the JWT or PDM-Racing/Shadbolt cams.
Personally, I would go with the fastback for the looks and if the budget allows drop in a S14 KA.
But if it's more luxuary that you are after, the S14's are much bigger, and can swallow up 18" wheels in those big fender well. One thing though, the '95 you are looking at is a base model, and you would need to change the lugs to 5 lug for some better wheels and serious brakes (300ZXTT setup, available from PDM-Racing in Vancouver).
If true sport's car feel is what you are after, the coupe are the lightest if it's a base model. Someone on the 240SX list has one that is super fast even thought it's stock. It's only advantage is the driver's skills and the lack of anything.

Yeah, no joke....my automatic seatbelt control unit just went out
My car looks just like the champagne coupe you have...tho I have some tasteful brown and black pinstripes along the waist of the car, and no DRL's, either...my wheels are also stock....

I think those belts are still covered under warrenty. I would go talk to your Nissan Dealer.

Boy, do I hate those damn motorized seatbelts. My passenger side belt sometimes locks up and pins the passenger in the car. I wanted to replace them with the manual belts. I thought it was only available in Japan, now I can just get them up north or at least import them here http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif. It's sure to be cheaper than getting them from Japan(I hope).

I'm almost positive Nissan will fix them for free.
The s13 fb that I owned seemed much lighter and more tossable than my 95. It was also much noisier than my 95.(it sounded like a damn truck) I think the s14 had liquid filled motor mounts.

Seat belts should be covered for the life of the car. I believe that's mandated by the government.

It's not mandated by the gov't... but Nissan does cover the seatbelts for lifetime...

Really?
So I can have a Nissan Dealer replace the control module...for FREE? DESPITE the fact my car is WAY over warranty? I mean, you can still crank them back and they are usable...
So far I have cranked them back have had to use the emergency release anytime I want to get in and out. Putting TWO seatbelts on is not exactly fun every time you get into a car.....

My Advice; Take the 95. It looks exactly like my first 240 down to the wheels.
I currently have a 97 240sx SE and absolutely love it. I've done approx. $4K in mods and still going. If you plan to go turbo, it is an excellent canidate.
