That site also has info on the SR20DET swap under the install section. Directions on the wiring and how to install it.

There was a post here that explains the differences between the SR20's from different years. I forgot what the subject was...you might have to search through the posts. But I believe they said the motor is the same more or less. The higher horsepower rating in the later models are due to a better turbo and other minor upgrades. You can get the same amount of power from the older SR20s if you add the turbo from the later models. Then again, if you want to swap turbos might as well get an aftermarket one for even more power http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif. The 6 speed tranny will fit on all the SR20s(RWD of course). One of the guys here said the 6 speeds are weaker than the 5 speeds and drag racers and drifters in Japan have been swapping out the 6 for 5. There was also a link to a site at www.240sx.org (http://www.240sx.org) that leads to a page describing all the differences in the SR20DETs. Even descibes how they look different physically. I don't remember it, so you'll have to search through them if you have the patience. I think there was a pic of a light blue 89-93 240 coupe with the silvia front end on that page...not too sure though. Sorry I can't remember the sites. Hope this helped.

it cant be that much of a hp difference can it?? (between 5 and 6 speed) and you can change the gear ratios cant you? would that help any?

ok.another addition...what exactly is VSPEC???
The problem is that to fit 6 gears in the same transmission housing, the gears have to be physically thinner. Thus they are not as strong, which is why people swap it out for the 5-speed.

VSpec is a shop in the LA area, I believe. They will install an SR20DET for you. A friend of mine bought his from them and had it installed with a Blitz front-mount IC for $5000.

Asad,
Are you referring to the shop called JSpec?
My guess is that the bOKoi is asking about the Vspec as in Skyline GT-R Vspec.
Sorry, I don't have all the particulars
I'm pretty sure the line up goes GT-R, GT-R Vspec, GT-R Vspec II, GT-R Vspec N1. Or something like that...

yeah...i was talkin bout VSPEC in cars...but thanx for the info guys....and i think that shop in kali is too far for me..i live in florida...and i was thinking of doing the swap myself..
Nope, there's another shop called VSpec. But its a moot point since I was answering the wrong question http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif

To atone for my sins...on Motorex's website FAQ, it says this about Vspec:
"A Vspec has a firmer suspension, an electronically controlled limited slip differential in the rear end, and has ATESSA-PRO."

ATESSA is the all wheel drive they use on the Skyline GT-R. It is also used in the QX4. Somebody said the new Pathfinder will also get it. The letters stand for something, but I don't remember it. It stays in RWD mode until it senses the wheels slipping and transfer up to 50%(i think) of the power to the front wheels. It is controlled electronically and they have after market products that allow you to change how much power goes to the front wheels. I don't know what's different about the ATESSA-PRO vs regular ATESSA.

Basically if you have an S13 SR20DET you can build you're own S15 SR. The differences between the two engine lie in the injectors which are bigger on the S15, the turbine which is a T28 ball bearing unit very similar to the HKS GT turbines, and the ecu. It's plug and play with them. Then of course you can bolt the S15 tranny right on and you'd have a six speed. Honestly though RPS13 is right, if you're going to go through all the trouble of getting all those parts you might as well just go aftermarket. Get a big turbine, 550cc injectors, GTR/Z32 fuel pump, ECV, and a fmic and you're pumping some major power. There's a guy in Velocity Japan with a '97 180SX and he has a full 5zigen exhaust system, Mines ECU, Apexi intake, Nismo 550cc injectors, GTR fuel pump, Apexi fmic, HKS EVC, and he's running the stock turbine and he had his car dynoed and 320PS....

For conversions from hp to ps and from bar to psi go to http://www.chariot.net.au/~elroy/tech/html/tables.htm
They've got everything.... oh and fmic stands for front mount intercooler....

ok..im debating which swap i should do...get an engine from an s15 and keep it as it is or get an older engine and get aftermarket parts....which would be cheaper?? and engine bays in an old 240(pop up lights) and the newer ones are the same right?
hmmm... just wondering... would an S15 SR20DET fit in an S13? Not that I'd ever be able to find one, but just curious... it's too bad Nismo doesn't sell engines like Chevy with their crate engines. That would be awesome!

All the SR20DE/T's are 2.0 liter. Well, that's the way the come stock. The numbers in all newer Nissan motors show the displacement. There might be exceptions but I haven't run across any.

If any of you guys are willing to pay for an S15 motor I can get them. They do fit in S13s. BoKoi, your better off getting an S13, much cheaper than S14. Remember about Japanese emmisions, after 30,000 miles its time for a new car or pay extra money. Meaning you should never get a motor with over 30k. Make sure you get everything, ecu, UNCUT wiring harness, tranny, ignitor chip and transistor. If not it will be real hard to find these parts and when you do find them they will be real expensive. Good Luck!

oh ok.....but wouldnt it be harder to find one with under 30000 miles? or would that not matter? and is it cheaper with the aftermarket parts also? cuz i heard the s15 engines are like 7000...

s13 sr's are 1700 down the street from my house. Why spend 7 g's on a s15 motor when the differences are minor? Save your money and upgrade the s13 motor and save yourself the headache of hunting down a s15 motor. Geez with the money you save, get some coilovers, rims, exhaust, boost controller, etc, etc, etc. Unless money's no object to you. You'd probably be spanking s15 equipped cars with the mods and still be ahead.
SR20DET

Exactly! Stick with an S13. If you want one I can get you one with everything:
1)Complete motor with Turbo /oil pan
2)Complete Intake manifold with injectors and fuel rail
3)Throttle Body
4)Complete DFI Ignition System
5)Hoses
6)Vacumme connectors
7)Complete wiring harness with all connectors (UNCUT)
8)ECU
9)MFS
10)Starter
11)Altenator
12)Motor Mounts
13)Transmission mounts
14)Complete tranmission
13)Flywheel
14)Clutch
15)Drive shaft
$2800 pretty good price considering everything is included. You wont have to buy anything. With the intercooler and piping its gonna cost $3200.

prices of sr motors vary depending on location partly due to supply and demand and partly due to shipping costs. I am lucky enough to live in the southern california, land of nissan headquarters, nissan motorsports, many many tuner shops littering the landscape. Most suck and have snot nosed "cool" guys behind the counter but oh well, can't have everything i guess. Yes 1700. I saw 3 sr's on my visit there along with 2 front clips (one was a 180sx w/sr20det) the other was a (dented silvia w/sr20de rwd). Pretty nifty. The silvia even came with upper strut mounts adjustable for camber and height! I would've picked that clip up for the suspension bits but it didn't have the det in it. Damn. The guy told me that he sold 2 rb26dett skyline motors the previous day. BTW, front clips were 2300.

God I have some stories about some of these f-in shops. Stories that range from just plain zero service (I'm talking no one else in the shop and they see you but don't do or say anything), to shady all cash deals. Some of these guys are real scumbags. To all you honest hardworking shop owners out there sorry to typecast you guys but I've simply never met one of you before. It's no wonder these shops come and go all over so. cal. I walk in and judging by the selection/service/****heads behind the counter. I can predict they wont be around on my next drive by and usually I'm right.
God, you don't know how jealous I am. Try living in Canada. Where I live, there's maybe 3 speedshops in the whole city and they all suck or are outrageously expensive. Plus to order stuff off the net the shipping costs twice as much and then ya gotta find someone to help install it (I'm not too mechanically inclined). I tell ya, first chance I get, I'm finding a nice cozy job down south and then I'm gone!
