In the May 2000 issue of SCC, they test drove a Blue S15 Silvia Spec R down at Nissan's Test facility in Phoenix. They are asking for people to email them to help petition Nissan USA to considering importing the S15 Silvia. They went to Nissan's US headquarters and suprisingly they were willing to listen. So please write to SCC. Silvia@mcmullenargus.com or visit their web site at www.sportcompactcarweb.com. (http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com.)

I saw that car at the SEMA show in Pomona. The back seats are barely there. Some of the worse back seats in I've seen in my life. But the car sure looks nice. It'll be nice if they brought it back. Even if they did, I wouldn't have enough cash to get it.

I doubt couple of letters from a few enthusiast can pusue a giant coporation like Nissan to change its mind http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum//images/icons/frown.gif

I just got done reading the new scc, and even if all their readers write to Nissan asking for the S15 there's no way Nissan will import it. The article said the car did 0-60 in 5.6 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 13.9 those are twin turbo Z numbers. Now I dont know what the new Z's numbers will be, but i can bet they wont be more than a half a second faster than this car. Now would you pay around 23k for the silvia or 30k for the new Z.
Even if Nissan brought the s15 over they would end up sticking that damn truck engine in it, and no one would buy it.

That "damn truck engine" is one of the smoothest i4's ive ever driven (in an Altima)

zbeast makes a good point. the performance of the S15 silvia would be too close to the next Z's (probably). it would be cheaper than it and would cannibalize its sales. the Z probably won't even look as good as the S15 silvia. but then again, maybe nissan will surprise everyone

Absolutely right.
I'm betting that the S15 Silvia is closer now to what the original Z-car was on the sports car market, than even the new Z will be. That is unless Nissan brings over an S15, gives it an entirely new body, and sells it as the new Z.
If Nissan sells a true S15 Silvia (read: Japan-spec powertrain) along side it's new Z-car, I swear I'll have a heart attack.

Don't get me wrong I loved both of the 240s I owned, but the ka24de engine is nothing compared to the Silvia's sr20vet engine. According to Nissan the only reason they never brought over the turbo engines were insurance prices. If they had used the sr20 engines we would still have the 240 or Silvia today.

Actually, once the KA is turboed, it's a pretty sweet engine. Revs to 7k redline w/o any problems. SR's redline is 7.2k. The acceleration in the top end is increadible w/ the extra torque from the .4l displacement advantage.

Im sure the ka24de is nice with a turbo, but I believe The sr20vet has much more potential. The $4k you spent on your ka24de would go a lot further on a engine that already had a turbo and a lower compression ratio from the factory. In Japan guys will swap out a Z32tt engine for the sr20vet.
I just don't think Nissan can sell a sport car for over $20k with a truck based 4 banger under the hood. If they put the sr20ve engine(190hp) and or the sr20vet engine(250hp) they might have a chance.

First of all not to nitpick but its called the SR20DET D-double overhead cam E- Electronic fuel injection T- turbo.... anyways it would be nice if Nissan would bring the S15 to america but I really don't see it happening. I had a chance to test drive one at Nissan Prince in Iwakuni and they are bad ass cars, the suspension is a little too loose for the power it puts out but all in all the car is bad ass. They're extremely versatile too, they can tear it up in the mountains drifting and then go and take on some GTR's in highway battles. And on the whole putting SR20's in Z32 Fairladys, its not commonplace. The SR20 isn't better than the VG30DETT, the only reason it was done is because of the uniqueness, yes I know Zenitani's SR powered Z32 runs 11's but if it still had the VG and they put the same amount of work in it they'd be running 9's... It's a good swap for the 240SX but I personally would swap a CA18DET into a 240 over the SR. I own an S13 Silvia (yes a silvia not a 240) and im running the CA. My friend has a SR powered 180SX and with basically the same mods I blow his ass away. The CA is a more torquey engine and revs higher... running past 7grand in a SR is pushing it but its nothing for a CA...

Nissan does have a series of sr engines that end in VE, I think its Nissan's version of Vtech. Im not totaly sure that their using them in the S15's yet, but if you check out se-r.net it might tell you a little about them.

SR20VE, SR16VE are used in FWD platforms, like the HP11, N15, B15. The S15 usues a SR20DE and a SR20DET. When Nissan did the S14 they added variable valve timing to the SR20DET, it was still a DET. Its the same idea thats used in the GA16DE, VG30DETT and the VH45DE, and new VQ45DE. They never will use the NEO VVL technology on turbos cause of too much valve overlap U get with this system, its no good for turbo. Thats why the FASTEST Honduhhs don't run VTEC in their drag cars, its disabled. And as good as the CA18DET was in the 80s its not even a match for a SR20, why do U keep on mentioning u smoke a SR20 180SX, they are heavier than the older Silvias. No wonder "with the same mods" U smoke him. Why do all the FAST Silvias run eighter a SR20 or a RB26 ? The fastest S platform is the S13 180SX in Japan, it runs 7s and has a RB26DETT in it. Its the HKS 180SX. JUN Silvia has a SR20 with their liner and stroker kit that ups its displacement to 2.2L and it pushes 700+HP and runs 8s. If U wanna compare engine U can compare the E15ET to the CA18DET they are close to comparison cause they are both belt driven, FJ20DET is better than the CA18DET.

What KA have you been driving? I've driven the SOHC, owned a 91 DOHC and currently own a 98 DOHC. None of these motors are "smooth". The 91 revved the best due to the better cams, but it was still rough. Try a Vtech Motor and you'll really know what smooth is. While I'm not saying the KA is not a good motor, I can think of dozens of smoother 4 bangers.

Nissan needs to do what is in their best interest(financially). I would think the market for the Silvia would be better. It's a lot of car for the money. It could easily blow the doors off of any Honda in all aspects and because of the turbo, the potential for more performance is ready to be tapped. Personally, the Z has been our biggest problem. The 240sx could have had the SR20's but it would reduce Z sales. Who knows, we might have had the Skylines if it weren't for the Z. And in Japan, you can have it all! I say bring it. I'll buy!
