Hello, I've been involve with FF Hondas for quite a while, and I am ready for some FR drifting action. I am thinking about building a 89-92 240sx coupe with a SR20DET.
1) Does the parts from SR20DE (SER, NX2k's engine) share with the SR20DET? Seals, water pump, oil pump, all the tune-up parts, etc.
2) What turbo does SR20DET come with? Are they reliable?
3) Is the wiring for the swap extremely involved? How much wire you gotta add? What percent is plug-n-playable?
4) What company makes this bumper? Where can i get it in US? http://www.eurostreetgraphics.com/intercooler.jpg
5) What is a fair market value for a high mileage (125k +) 89-92 240sx coupe 5spd?
Thanks all in advance!

I don't know too many answers to your questions, but I'm pretty sure the turbo on the sr20det is a t25.
The front bumper you want, however, looks like a erebuni shogun style. I'm not sure if this is a knock off of some other companies, but if your happy with getting the erebuni, go look at "erebunicorp.com"
There's more aggressive variations of bumpers that look very close to that. Do-Luck from Japan makes one. You can see their stuff at "speedlab.com"
I can answer a few of your questions. The SR20DET comes with a T28 turbo. The bumper is a NISMO piece, gotta get it from Japan. And you could probably get an 89 for $2-3K easy.

Wow, you're the second person this week that switched from a Honda to a Nissan. Welcome aboard. Have you considered just turbocharging the stock motor? That motor is pretty tough and a few people here have turbo'd that motor with some impressive results. New injectors are a must for those year 240's. Pistons are pretty weak also and will need to be replaced if you want to turn up the boost.

RPS- thanks.
To be honest, I do not want to mess with the KA. For current street price, most likely I will end up with a high mileage car. So there is little point to modify a high mileage motor. Also given the fact that SR20DET are fairly inexpensive (compare to B18C, B16A of Hondas), I believe SR20DET is a better bet.
I have looked at the two sites "Tim" suggested, but I didn't find anything that look similar to the front bumper of that 240. I use to think 240 coupe are just okay, a little lengthy, but that pic changed my mind.
I driven my friend's stock 92 240 fastback before, I didn't like the front heaviest of the car. Maybe it is due to the huge iron block of the KA. Does a lighter SR engine minimize that feeling?
About the parts interchangeability of SR20DE and SR20DET, does anyone know? This is kinda important because I see this project as a long term investment.
Thanks for your input.

For the sr20det and sr20de us version sharing the same parts...answer is "NO" the only parts you can swap out really is the intake, exhaust, and tb seals.... but you can use the Q45 ignitor, the sohc 240sx MAF, and a maxima clutch....but thats about it...I currently run the sr20det in my 91 240sx..the swap is really not to hard.. but you need to know what you are doing on the computer part or you can blow the ecu...For the bumper...you can get the complete 5 piece kit from TC spoilers...it is a copy of the NIsmo kit..cost $400 complete..My shop does the swap and we stock parts for the sr..you can check out The Velocity Cali. ( Velocity.isfaster.com)page for my car and a link to our shop..or write us at Mckinneymotorsports@hotmail.com if you have more questions...I drive the black 91 240sx w/sr20det and a du-luck front end.....
Good luck,
Grumpy

asad,
I drove a non-se 240sx. I think it's the standard model fastback. The feeling is different from front heavy FF cars like Civics. Maybe b/c those cars are extremely light. My old civic weighted only 2100 lbs. I always feel that I am a lot of control in my civic. But driving his car was different. The front end feels really bulky, and felt it's going to hit!!!
I dunno, maybe b/c of the low seat height, high dash line, and long hood contribute to this effect. Any takers? http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif
Thanks again!

What about gaskets/seals? oil/H2O pumps?
btw, what is MAF? I don't remember see this term in H-cars.
Damn, 400 bucks complete sounds like a really good deal!
Thanks for the info.

MAF is short for Mass Air Flow sensor...I believe Hondas use a MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor? AFAIK, all Nissan cars use MAF-based systems.

You're right about the high mileage. There is info on the SR20DET swap at www.240sx.org (http://www.240sx.org) for the 89-93 240's. It's in the install section. I don't think the FF and FR SR20's have to many parts in common because of the way the motor is placed in each car. Not positive on this though. The 240 is a bigger car than most Hondas. Maybe that's why you think it's heavy. The hood is long compared with most FWD cars. When I drove my friends Civic, it was a lot more forgiving if I made a mistake. The 240 makes you realize you made a mistake. asad137 is right though. The 240 almost has a 50/50 weight ratio. The FWD cars are all front heavy. It is easier to rotate a RWD car with the throttle. After driving RWD cars, I don't really like to drive FWDs. This just my feelings on the matter. As for the price of a 240, I think where you live will also determine the price. There might be more or less where you live. Options and models will also affect the price as you probaly already know.

Did you every get a price on that manifold?
Yup. CA18DET had a T25, SR has a T28.

Did you drive a base model or an SE? The SE has better swaybars (including a rear one) that greatly improves the handling. To tell you the truth, the KA isn't all that heavy, the F-R weight balance is somewhere around 53/47. Its funny to hear you complain about front heaviness after driving hondas with >60% of their weight over the front wheels! But that front-heavy, understeering feel can be remedied with a decent suspension.

Oh, yeah, I did. Since PartsBiz.com had it listed on their website for $405, I called up one of the other authorized dealers on RevHard's website, Racing Trenz in Colorado. They gave me a price of $400, so I bought it. Call them up, their number is (719) 536-0150, ask for Gerard or Glen.

oh yeah, forgot to say its like a 2-week wait since they don't have them in stock.
Ummm, I take the comment below back. I ordered my manifold from Racing Trenz on Wednesday (I think). I have the manifold in my hands right now (well, not right now, since it would be a bit awkward to type while holding a heavy cast iron manifold).
