I have a '95 S14 and I keep on getting beat by this stock yellow Integra Type R and is getting very annoyed... So I was wondering what will it take to beat it? By 2 car length or so.. Oh yeah btw.. what kind of time will I post with a 55shot dry nitrous?
Thanks,
Jon
Well, the Type R has 195 hp and 2600 lbs. Your S14 is only 155 hp and closer to 2900 lbs. Is it any wonder that you're losing? The 240sx's advantage is off the line, with its torque and rear-wheel drive. The 55-shot should keep you ahead of him from then on.

I'm not too sure a 55shot of NOS will keep you ahead of the newer (yellow is 2000+ right?) type R's . I think Acura claimed despite the similar power output, it is faster than the older (1997-98 dirty white) type R's. I think the older type R ran about a 14.1 1/4 mile. Maybe a turbo? Or some serious bolt ons. Or a s14 sr20det.

The Integra type R will do a 0-60mph sprint in the mid to high 6s... and the S14 240SX will do the same sprint in the mid to high 7s... and SCC's project 240SX has a light pressure turbo set up with 6.5psi and it runs a mid 6... so go figure...
14.1 seems awful low. In the march issue of Car and Driver, they have a test of tuner 4-cylinders, and they compare the #'s to the stock versions. The 1/4 mile time they have for the stock ITR is 15.2 @ 93 mph. High 14's might be possible...but 14.1 is not likely.

6.5 psi giving you mid 6?!? That's ridiculously slow. 6.5 psi should give you a good 250 crank hp, which in a 2900 lb car should be good for mid-5's 0-60 (think Honda S2000 power/weight ratio). BTW, the 0-60 time for the ITR from the article I mentioned above is 6.6 sec. I have (with my GTech) gotten consistent 6.8 second 0-60's with:
Injen CAI
HotShot Header
2.5" exhaust
JWT chip
Last time I was at the track, my car ran 15.48, on a hot day, with pretty crappy 60' times.
I'm going to stick with my original opinion that a 55-shot of nitrous will be plenty. There's no way my bolt-ons even come close to 55 hp, and look how close my times are to an ITR.

Sorry I think it was 15.1 for the quarter mile not 14.1. I have a pretty bad memory, but now that I think about it, it should be 15.1 or so since that's just a little faster than a stock 97+ prelude.
Anyways, yea a 55 shot of NOS plus full intake, header, and exhaust system, and a high flow cat or an illegal straight pipe, and a retuned ECU from JWT could probably do it also. I don't think slapping on a quicky $600 55-shot NOS bottle will do it alone though.
If you do plan on going NOS make sure you work on the fuel system or at least have JWT tune your ECU for you. I'm not sure if it's neccessary but it would be a lot safer.
BTW, I don't like typeR's (or any fwd honda)much either. Rather it's not the car that I don't like, it's when the driver is cocky and rants about how his fwd is better than a 240 that ticks me off.

I disagree. I think the only thing you'll really need is a good exhaust...2.5" should be good for NOS use as well as not so big that you lose all your low-end torque when you're not squeezing. Of course, all the other stuff will help too, but if all you want to do is beat an ITR, that's all you'll need. The other stuff will make your car faster off the bottle too.

Safer yes...also will make your $600 NOS system a $1200 NOS system (or more!). IMO, its not really necessary either. A 55-shot of nitrous isn't very much. I know a guy who ran a 75-shot direct-port wet setup and he had no problems at all. Dry setups usually come with the necessary hardware to add more fuel (usually by raising the fuel pressure) when the juice kicks in.

Hmm...just read an article in the new SCC. Their numbers for the 2000 ITR are 0-60 in 6.5, 1/4mi in 14.7@95.2 mph. Yikes, a half second difference from the C&D time. The 55-shot might still be enough tho.
