AS the title says, I’m about to fit an RB26DETT to my 180SX. Has anyone done this conversion? Or anyone knows anyone who has put an RB26DETT in a RWD car?

My mate in Japan is sending me a RB26DETT from a R33. I know the motor will fit the engine bay, by moving the motor 100mm forward. But I’m not sure on the rear engine mounts?

Any info would be great!

The motor will fit. I know the swap has been done in Japan but... yeah theres always a but. I'm not sure how many mod's you'd have to do to make the motor fit in there. Plus I think the only reason why it would be easier to do in Japan is because the cars over there are right hand drive. To make the RB26 work in the Silvia you'd have to do a few more mods to convert over to right hand drive.

What gearbox are you going to use? I'm pretty sure the standard box only works with 4wd.

Mel E Bog;

I'm in australia, so the right hand drive isn't a prob. As we drive on the left. What mods did they make to the drive train?

Vspec;
This is what i don't know! I know a complete RB20DET can fit and run the standard RB20 box, but the RB26 box could be a problem. Also not runing a front diff, will this be a problem also?

I've found a web site that may have the answers, but it's in japanese.

thanks,

TT

I heard that you had to use an R33 RWD tranny. this had an rb25det attached to it but I understand an RB26DETT will mate up to it fine.

Redlyne you’re right.

I just spoke to a jap importer and he said a R33 RWD box will fit, or removing the oil pressure line to the GTR box will make it RWD also.

Which leads to the next prob of tail shaft.

Just curious, how much are you paying for the motor? and what do you think the final bill will tally up to?

$1 US = 60c AUD

RB26DETT for about $2000-$3000 AUD, my friend will ship it from japan in one of his containers.

Then about $2000 to finish the job.

Tail shaft = Driveshaft??? If it is, you're probably gonna have to get a custom one made. Shouldn't be too expensive. I know in the states I can get a damn nice one made for about the same as OEM. If the tail shaft is something totally different, I'm kinda curious as to waht it is.

You need to use an RB25DET gearbox. It's RWD and it's supposed to bolt right up.

That's the information I got from EnonvativForce in Torrence, CA.
