I have always wondered - why is the inside of my engine bay black when the exterior is blue? I notice a lot of s14 pictures I see have body colored engine bays.
I have an SE and it was purchased new from the factory. Is it possible that the dealer repainted the car and sold it without painting the inside of the engine bay? The color code on the car is the code for a blue car.

Does everyone else have a body colored engine bay?

I don't know if I'm right but I have the LE which is the same as SE in the states. I also have the black engine bay and thats usually comes in SE/LE and the non-SE/LE comes with the same exterior color. Maybe because of better heat transfer(black).

Mine is a 96 Pearl White SE. My engine bay is white.

That's what I would think it was for. Flat black does transfer better as far as I know. I was also told that chrome is the worst for heat transfer.

i've only seen white or black engine bays on stock s14s. white if your car is white and i know i've seen black on a green one. black gets black of course. i think they do that to cut costs because dark colors get dark undercoat and white gets a lighter one.

Tim, you have a blue s14? those are really nice. of all 97-98 s14s, that is the rarest color that i've seen. s14 silvias came in that color too. is it bn6 or something? starlight blue metallic...? i rarely see that moss silver color either but i don't really like it.

It's called starfire blue pearl. I've seen red, black, green, white, and purple. I never seen that cream speckled looking one.

Is this that colour you are talking about?

i don't know what "cream speckled" is. it sounds like an egg. i found my list of color codes for 97-98 240SXs.

ultra red (AJ4); starfire blue pearl (BN6); cobalt green pearl (DN1); super black (KH3); silver moss (KR5); deep fuschia (LS1); aspen white pearl (WK0)

silver moss is the color i was talking about.

I own 2 '96 240SX SEs - Ultra Red & Ruby Pearl - the engine bay is an unclearcoated red in both of them.

My cream speckled color was referring to the silver moss one. And the one in the picture isn't blue. That looks like a teal color that the 95-96 come in. Starfire blue pearl looks like a dark blue.

So I don't get it. Why do some come with a black engine bay, some with white, and some red?

if you want my guess, i think it's because your car is such a dark blue that they use black undercoat for primer. on white cars, they use a white undercoat and on earsplitten's car they used red because it is a brilliant red and other colored undercoats would change the desired effect.

again i'd like to say i really like that color. i wish i had got mine in that color. interesting to note is that the R33 skyline and after M/C Silvia S14 both used that color but it's called deep marine blue. (you can get a 98 S14 silvia k's aero se sports package in this color in GT2)
the 96 primera and 97 UK primeras also used this color but called it dark blue.

does anyone have a 97-98 240 in a red pearl color from the factory? i found this one on autotrader. it says red pearl, looks red pearl from the photo. i didn't know they kept using that color after they freshened the car for 97. has anyone seen one of these? might it be custom or an offcolor photo?

There is a pearl red for 97-98 models. If I remember, all the 97-98 colors had "pearl" in the title in the 240sx brochure from the dealer.
The car in the picture doesn't look quite right though. The red ones I've seen are brighter looking. That one could almost pass for burgundy. I think the pic is a little off-color.
