View Full Version : Interested in a Socal Spring Break meet in San Diego, CA?

Grant

I was thinking of another meet over spring break, either at Mission Bay, or maybe my house (huge lot by the pool, empty 90% of the time). Anyone in the socal area interested?

I'll have to check when spring break is, hehe, IIRC, I think beginning of april.

Let me know guys. images/icons/grin.gif

I'd go, but it sort of sucks b/c some people are on quarter system (i.e. every UC except for Berkeley), and some are on semester system, or otherwise.

Not everyone has the same vacation as you.

My suggestion: Hop onto the SoCal list, make a poll in the group list, and go from there. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/socal240sx has a feature to create your own poll.

thanks Alex, Its just that winter vacation and thanksgiving vacation was around the same time for UC and CS system, so i figure it might be ok. I will check again though.

I'll go.. and my break is 3/23-3/31. (yes, quarter system -> UCSD) I'm sure I can also get my other bud with a 240 and my friend with an AE86 to be there.

Hey Grant! Is that you? It's Steven Patch. LJ's spring break is 3/24-3/29. If I have my car running by then (doubtful, but altogether possible) I'll come by images/icons/cool.gif

yea that's me steve, I'm trying to find out the Cal State spring break, and I'll let you guys know.. (no exact date yet, I'll try to narrow it down)

Mission bay area sounds like a good place to meet. or we can go to my house, (the lot by the pool is quite large, but I dont want to get **********ed at by the homeowners association.)Any ideas Kevin?

well, I don't think we're going to be doing burnouts in the parking lot, so I don't think your HOA would complain images/icons/wink.gif Maybe someplace central would be good.. hmm. Any parks in Mission Valley or PB that have any semblance of parking available? There's a park in La Jolla (UTC area) but who knows if the lot will be full. That's probably the most important consideration.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial[/img]How about you just plan a weekend, and we'll all just try to show up?

No matter what weekend you pick, there will always be people that can't make it. You can't possibly please everyone.

We could always go down to the beach at Torrey Pines. There's a nice sized parking lot there. Dunno if it'd be full on the weekend though. I'll do some scouting at local parks.. The Q COULD be an option, provided there are no special events going on on the designated day..

yeah, if it's a weekend forget about torrey pines, I think it'll be packed. besides, we need some way to get grub during the meet. maybe someone could bring a barbecue? or of course, we could just hit roberto's! hehe.

I think the date is fine, now we just need to find a place. BTW, the autocross is on 3/15-3/17, so no dice on that. Qualcomm might be a bad idea because there wouldn't really be anywhere to relax.. plus we could get kicked out. (you never know)

Grant: I meant for you to go on SoCal240SX and create a poll to see which weekend was the best. If you ask people if they are interested in a SD meet, most of them would say "yes" since there is no set date and their committment would not obligate them to attend any particular weekend since the date was never set. So just pick a weekend, pick a location, and let people know. It's more work for you if you go through the process of picking a "best weekend for everyone" when not everyone can attend.

As long as I'm not in Japan during that time, I'll try to come out too.

Unless there is an event like an autoX at the Q (which there isn't), security won't allow you to use the parking lot. And as some has stated already, there's no place to really chill there.

Mission bay is probably the best bet. There's always some part of the bay open enough for a meet.

If I can think of any other places that might make for a good meeting spot, I'll be sure to offer them for consideration.

Grant: do us all a favor and just lock down a location while you're at it. Who cares what one or two people think... just pick a place where you think everyone would want to go to, and just leave it at that... when I plan meets around the L.A. area, I don't try to get everyone's opinion... I just plan the meet, and people will show up. Like Shine Street and the summer kick-off BBQ, it gets bigger and bigger every year... as long as the location is constant and we can have trouble-free access to it, I'm sure this SD meet can become a yearly thing.

I don't think people would like the idea of the meet location up in the air... plus I need solid info so that I can have it updated on www.socal240sx.org (http://www.socal240sx.org)

Ok folks, here's the deal:

10am-3pm 30 March 02
at East Mission Bay Park in San Diego

Meet/greet/show/shine from 10am till 3pm! Wax your car, bring your cameras, and enough gas money to get home! Sodas will be provided, but if you want to eat, you'll have to BYO food..
There will be a cruise for all those who want to participate at 3pm from the park and possibly to a restaurant for some dinner.

Directions will follow, but from LA it's basically 5 South to Clairemont drive and take a left. You'll see the parking lot as you exit. and from SD, go 8 west to the 5 and then North to the same exit.

If you have any questions you can email myself at mrmephistopheles@yahoo.com
or Grant at Grant8311@aol.com

Not sure when my car will be up and running again. After it's been sitting for over a year, I'll need to change my registration back from "non-operational", get insurance, finally fix my suspension, and just get everything freshened up. Do you think I need to be careful about starting the car back up after letting it sit for over a year? I'm definitely going to change my oil after I get it fired up. You don't really need to answer here. I'll probably ask more on the SoCal list.
