240SX Meeting in Tampa area [Archive]

Hey fellas. I'd most definitely show up since I'm a newbie to the board. It'd be a great opportunity to meet some of you Tampa guys. Let's organize a date and set it up. I'm happy to help with organization. Just to toss out there I have a friend with a 97 240 and a friend with a 02 Spec V who would also love to get together. Good deal, it seems alot of you are interested so yes let's keep this thread going. What day would you guys like to set for such an event? I say it should be a Saturday sometime in June. I say we centralize it as well so none of you guys have to drive too far out of your way. Other details, would you guys like to all bring something or just chip in money for 1 person to buy everything? Spread the word as much as you can. That way we can get the most people to come.

Where can I meet other S14 owners during the weekends? Are there any hangout spots in Tampa? I've been to the car show at Checkers on Dale M. & Fletcher but there's too much rice!

hey maxtype,

have you been to any of the scca or porsche club autocrosses at the base? i've been out of touch with them the last couple of seasons and not sure if they still run there. just a heads up because there is usually a good turn out and the courses are real good. they use one of the air strips in the back.

btw, i open for a meet the last weekend in june or anytime in july or august for a meet. we also need to pick a location. perhaps we could represent at the ricer convention on dale mabry.

Jerry, those events have been canceled until further notice due to world events & the current security level at the base.
I don't see any SCCA events in Tampa either, just Orlando & Palm Coast images/icons/frown.gif

So no organized meets in Tampa for Nissans images/icons/frown.gif
Well if anyone sees a white S14 w/ huge TE37s & a dual N1, that's me.

OK all, I've been thinking heavily on this meet & I feel the need to attain/surpass the success we had in Orlando. I believe 13-15 enthusiasts came from Tampa that day.

Tampa would be a great getaway for Orando people & others. We have the infamous Ybor City, unequaled in the state, among other great places. The beaches & blvds are nice too, never mind the 110mph+ bridge crossings!

The stage is set for both day & night time activities! So when do I propose this massive meet? I believe the July 4th weekend would prove suitable for everyone, I would imagine people have that Thursday & Friday off? Plenty of time to coordinate too.

PS - this meet would include all Nissans

July 4 sounds great. Most should have no reason not to show up. Would you like to have this in a park or beach type environment? What would be a suitable time? Should everyone bring food or just bring money to chip in for food? Who would like to be in charge hehe?

Ill be free the whole weekend of the 4th. I cant think of anywhere in Tampa, I am at a loss.
Pinellas side has Ft. DeSoto, Seminole park, Lake Tarpon farther north.
The beaches are great but you have to pay to park everywhere.. not sure how that would go over.

Ill be there wherever is decided.

the weekend of the 4th sounds good to me. perhaps we could meet somewhere in tampa to keep it central. maybe near the university somewhere. since we only have a few weeks, let's get a date, say the 6th?. tampa bay area people chime in!!!!

I think Saturday the 6th sounds good. Everyone post the day which they think it should fall so we can get a final date and I can request off of work. As far as food goes, everyone just plan to pitch in $5 or so and bring some chips or soda or something small to help out. Perhaps we can do somewhere in the International Plaza area. There's a lot of open space right around there but I'm not sure if there's anywhere in particular for us to bbq and park at.

Hi all, glad to see the spark in interest. Shin, I know you were a major player for our Orlando. You may remember that I was the one to set the date (I was in Alabama for a month & we held it the day after I got back:)
So, not wanting to miss the Tampa meet, I suggested July 4th. (I'll be in Mississippi for 3 months but the long weekend will allow me to travel down here).
OK, so I'm scheduling based on my training schedule but it seems it might to everyone's benefit, like Orlando!

Chris, good call on consolodating the thread, that way we'll avoid confusion.

Those who frequent the 240SX.org, Zilvia, TwinTurbo boards, etc, could you please volunteer & create a thread regarding the meet??? When a thread is created on a different forum, post here stating so, that way we'll now all boards are accounted for images/icons/cool.gif

Regarding time/date, Friday or Saturday would be great at 3-4PM. That'll allow us to eat lunch (pizza?) gaze over our cars, take group pics, & take a day-time cruise.

That will lead into the night, eat dinner, go to the blvds (long but fun/fast drive over bridges).
We can stay in the Tampa area, especially Ybor (GameWorks) or perhaps even Malibu Racing Park (Group Discount)!

OK, I've proposed tentative plans, you guys fill in your experience/ideas & we'll finalize the plan images/icons/grin.gif

Can't wait!

PS - Just installed my 300ZX brakes today (3hrs) but they still look puny inside the Volks. Well, they have enhanced braking by many times over.
Getting an Alpine stereo in tommorrow...

I propose we meet a little bit earlier in the day maybe like Noon or so and then maybe we can arrange to head out to the Tampa/Ybor area from there. I think we should try and crash the street races later in the night if we're all going to still be in the area. Either way, if Saturday, the 6th is alright for everyone, speak up so we can finalize that.

OK, not much decision-making here.

Those who are familiar with Tampa need to pick a spot for the daytime/nightime meet

Day:
1. International Mall/Plaza
2. Malibu Race Park
3.
4.

Night:
1. Ybor
2. Clearwater
3. Car Show on Fletcher Ave
4.

Also, someone post on the SE-R site & perhaps contact local performance shops (Z shop on Dale M, Racing Zone, Ralph's shop)...

I'm leaving tomorrow but I'll frequent the forum. Keep the Melbourne/Gainesville/Orlando people up to speed too.

Wow...look what you miss when you never frequent this page. So, unbeknownst to me it looks as if a meet is close to being set in stone.

I for one vote that we should just make this an all Nissan meet and not just to the s-chasis 240sx crowd. I loved playing a part in last years Orlando meet and wish I could help with the Tampa one, but my familiarity with the area is slim to none. If you guys plan on doing this, you have to have a place to meet (of course) and stuff to do...it'll get boring quick.

Just let me know and I'll be there with my S14. If you guys don't mind, I'd love to take care of gathering any and all the folks from Miami (tons of 'em), Merrit Island, Melbourne, ect. We'll all cruise up in one big *** crew.....I can also have my friend Vik work on getting a group of "Z" guys to go. If I play my cards right, I could get 20 to 30 cars my self.....hopefully.

So wherever you guys have in mind for this meet better be pretty large in size....last years meet was s-chasis specific (although some others showed up), and wasn't all that organized, and we had 50+ cars show....so make sure it's a nice big place with tons of parking.

I think the rolling dyno would be enjoyed by lots...great idea. Gonna need prices....

I've been waiting forevr for this years meet and can't wait for it to arrive. The 6th is fine for me as well. I'll go spread the word on Zilvia, 240sx.org, sr20de development.com, Altimas.net, ect

I put up another thread, but no many people seem to have seen it.

We need to get this rolling if everyone wants this to happen. I will not mind putting everything together, but I just want to be sure how many people are definite in. Does everyone want this to be a one day or a 2 day event? Will people be needing a place to stay if it's gonna be a 2 day event. If there are more then 20~30 cars, we should talk to a few places like Hooters and such, and get them to reserve a day for us, including room in the resturant and also in the parking lot. If we want a dyno to be involved, I think it would be best for this event to be stretched out to 2 days. As far as pricing for dyno, I would say, a pre-pay price of $35 for 3 runs with wide band and $50 for the day of the event.

If there are that many people involved, I think we can do for instance, a pre-pay of $45 dollar per car w/ driver and $5 per person. Covering 3 runs on the dyno and also lunch for the first day. I don't know, just throwing out some ideas.

If there are people that will need to stay at a motel or something, we can also go around and see if we can get a group rate started.

All this needs to be decided, come on guys, give some suggestions.

Well to have a successful meet, there always has to be a chosen few to take care of all the dirty work i.e, talking to businesses for parking area, getting local hotel/motel prices if need be for some folks, possible group discounts, food accomodations, ect.

I can guarantee we will have way way way more than 30 cars.....myself and a few frienda will spread the word in South Flroida. I wish there were some way to post this somewhere else, cause I know alot of FL peoples aren't seeing this thread.

I'll go home and make a list of all the FL folks and individually send e-mails if that waht it takes....again, if any help is neede, I'll be more than willing. Just drop me an e-mail..

Well, I don't mind getting things done around here. I just moved to Tampa and have no job! So, I have plenty of time to gather info and get all the details together. Only thing is that there's a lot of TALK, just want to make sure everyone's up for it and how many before starting the project.

The pricing is not realistic.

1. The dyno price is inflated but I do see it's benefit of limiting number of cars. From previous experience, $5-$7 is realistic.

2. Lunch should be held at a major establishment (previous coordination preferred). Drivers & their loved ones/friends choose what/when to eat.

Most have expressed interest in particpating on the 6th: I propose the following meet at 3-4PM:

Over priced for the dyno?

I am not related to the shop that will be dynoing, but I think that $35 for 3 runs with wide band is pretty good. $5~7 dollar? Man, we need to hookup with this place you are talking about.

Once we confirm a LARGE PARKING AREA for the show part of the day. We can get some printed flyers of this going around to local speed shops around everybodys area. This way, more nissan people will find out and will hopefully come.

Anyways, i am in orlando and would love to come! I used to live in Tampa, and defenately want to cruise over the I-75 brigde between tampa and st. Pete, maybe called the Howard Franklin???? Hey just a thought...we could meet in the USF sundome parking lot...schools out, big landmark (hard to miss) then there's parks around, tons of restautrants...we could roll out to whereever and give some poor waitress a heart attack, then go YBOR, st. pete, wherever...
