Since it's now confirmed that the Altima 3.5SE will get a power boost to 245hp, does this mean that the Murano will get 245 as well? Nissannews.com says "240+" for the Murano.

i am almost positive it is the same engine as the ALTY...but looking at it, this is not bad at all, because ALTY engine got praise from everywhere....its a 10-best VQ...and it will beat definately HIGHLANDER..and also PILOT..even at 5hp more than pilot...for some reason pple are always competing...it will more than most likely not make a diff though...the 5hp that is

I want at least 260 hp like the G35 ..... this is a heavy SUV. Why is Nissan hiding all the details on the Murano ..... they will lose sales to Toyota, Honda, Volvo, BMW. Yes based on it's size and potential handling characteristics it could be better than BMW and the new Volvo XC90. The Pilot and MDX are too much like Mini-Vans. The Highlander is OK but they deleted some extras which would have made it better than it's Lexus kin. I want ........ details now. Braking, handling, headroom, legroom, turning diameter, mpg, 0-60, etc. I think Murano could dominate mid-size SUV's like the G35 will dominate sport sedans.

HP means nothing. The thing that moves a vehicle is torque. HP only effects top speed. I think Nissan would use the same engine as the Pathfinder which has 240HP and 265 lb-ft of torque.

Well the engine that the current Pathinder use is the same 3.5 VQ that the Max and Alty are using. This will be the same engine the Murano will use also, so it will have power.

If HP means nothing why can the G35 "kill" Altimas .... same engine and torque but more HP.

The Altima and G35 don't have same torque. The G35 has 260 lb-ft of torque and Altima/Maxima/I35 all have 246. So get your specs. right before posting. Plus the G35 is geared differently, better coef. of drag, and is RWD.

This is a silly exchange of nothing but: Obviously I know my G35 has more torque than the Altima and it's rear wheel drive. I really don't care. I want more HP than 240 HP in the Murano and I also want more torque. I also hope it's geared so it moves off the line. The Z is slower than the G35 sedan ..... hey its got more wind rsistance to overcome.

Does anyone know what sort of 4wd system the Murano will have? Is it front wheel drive, with torque transfer to the rear, or a 50/50 torque split with a viscous coupler or a Haldex type center diff? http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/confused.gif

The Z is slower than the G35 sedan ..... hey its got more wind rsistance to overcome.

On what planet? The G35's consistently putting down 0-60 times of 6.2 while the Z's hitting 60 in 5.4-5.8 seconds. Not sure how the Z is slower...

Good stuff Jonathan. What's the story on cargo capacity/pass volume? Do you know? I have an ML 320 - was wondering how it would compare.

Thanks for the awesome info Jonathan! I do wonder why they would put real aluminum in the Murano, but not real aluminum in the G35!? http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/confused.gif

You know I thought about the same thing. Nissan does some very backwards stuff. Come on Nissan get it right. But oh well not a big deal. I just hope they get these little small mistakes correct.

Jonathan,

So long ago you got it so right.

The difference between Torque and HP is very mis-understood.

HP is calculated from Torque as follows:

HP = RPM x Torque/5250.

Therefore, HP is simply torque with RPM factored in.

In the past the power curve (torque or HP) had a huge effect on accelleration since the engine was so dependent on the finite number of gears. However, with the advent of the CVT transmission, the power curve is not nearly as important since the CVT can be tuned to keep the engine at the RPM where peak torque is produced. The power curve still is important, but not nearly as much. And the entire low end torque vs high end RPM is nearly a moot point.
