Ok hey everybody.
Im new here but im on alot other forums.
anyways i just bought a 1973 240Z.
Car has no rust and is clean...But has no engine, no nothing really.
So this is where i need help.
I wanted to do a LT1 swap with the 6-speed but everyday i want a turbo motor more and more.
so would a SR20DET fit? what would i need to make the motor and tranny fit.
also where can i find new bautiful front and rear chrome bumpers for the 73.
Thanks
mike

I think you'd need a s13-s15 clip depending on what you want. Also alot of blodd sweat and tears. I did the S14 into the 510 and took me about 2 months to do (did it only on the weekends a couple of hours a day).
Sounds like you'll be one of the first.
Good luck,
Nelson

Hey, you can build some downright absurd horsepower with the L6, especially if you want to go turbo. getting 300+ hp out of the stock 280zx turbo motor without opening it up is not really that difficult, plus, you dont have to worry about mounting it, or wiring harnesses issues. I have some formulas floating around for some killer motors if you want to build one. anyway, the stock strait 6 is still a contender even today, dont count it out!

Go to www.hybridz.org (http://www.hybridz.org) to read about just about every engine swap into a zcar that has ever been tried.
I've done a couple of swaps. The l6 280 turbo is by far the easiest technically. Pick your gears right and keep the weight down and you can make the 11s.
Just remember, the purpose for the car is running twisty back roads. Optimizing for 1/4 mile sprints generally kills the handling.

you should try www.zhome.com (http://www.zhome.com) as well they have plenty of information on all sorts of engine configurations.

my suggestion; why dont you just put a vg30dett? i noticed that you have a newer z. that probably means you know how to work on the VGs. i have seen a 240z with one. just a suggestion. also, if you still have your original bumpers, you can always have it straightened out and rechromed.
