View Full Version : C&D conspiracy theory...

I think a good portion of the board members here read C&D right? Anyone read the Feb. 2000 issue? They had a comapro of $30k near luxury cars. Of course they had the new I30t.
Couple of things that caused me to think C&D is unfair at times about Nissan/Infiniti cars. For example, they say "Nissan's excellent all-aluminum DOCH 3.0-Liter V-6...." yet the rated the engine just an 8! Whereas the Lexus ES300 and Acura TL V-6s get a 9. Sure the car didn't accelerate as well as it could but I think all VQ Maxima/I30 owners would agree it's a super smooth and very refined.
Then they rate the Features and Amenities for the I30t as a "7"....geez lets see...the car comes with standard HID, memory seats, and rear motorized sunshade. The Lexus ES300 does offer HID (as an option) and memory seats but doesn't have a rear motorized sunshade and it got an 8. Hmmm...
Maybe I am too paranoid?

I know what your saying. They always seem like they are a little biased towards nissans. Maybe its just an image thing. They seem to have got caught up in the idea that since its a lexus that must mean it is the best. They didn't even give the xterra the attention it deserved like when motor trend named it suv of the year.

Yes the C&D is dominated by Honda fanatics. Honda Accord is always in their top 10 cars. Funny, it has an SOHC engine while the competitors (Camry, Maxima, etc.) all have a more advanced DOHC engine.

Yes, C&D love to kiss Honda's ass http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum//images/icons/shocked.gif
Automobile mag seems to be more unbiased.

And what's up with the Honda Accord on C&D's 10Best List and not the 2k Maxima. Call Oliver Stone, we've got a conspiracy here alright.

Sometimes I think the type of review a vehicle gets is related in some way to the ammount of advertising revenue provided.

C&D and motor trend (believe they're under the same roof) usually are unfairly biased against nissan, especially when in a comparison with a honda. it doesn't make a lot of sense, since one of their reviews on the Maxima said that most car companies around the world should learn how to make V6's from Nissan (honda and toyota i believe were among the companies listed).
i think the chevy caprice was actually C&D's car of the year in the early 90's (could be mistaken). if that doesn't prove their incompetence--or bias, i don't know what does.

The conspiracy is alive and well in the May issue of C&D with a lukewarm review of the new Sentra.

I believe C&D has the same owner as Road & Track, not Motor Trend.
As for the bias, look at all the publications: luxury car won't win, unless it's a Audi, BMW, or Lexus. Inexpensive won't win unless it's Honda or Toyota. It's a "conventional wisdom" http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum//images/icons/frown.gif
Non-automotive press such as Consumer Report is not better.

Nissan/Infiniti never get a good ranking in Car $ Driver. The only car they will like is the 350z and after that they always rank Nissan low. The guys who test these cars are old and should be put out of their misery.

I'm still trying to get work here in Ann Arbor with C&D or Automobile.

Type X, I will pray tonight that you get the job...lol that would be great. Every single Nissan automobile you get to test you can always give rank it at the top. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I can't rank anything in the entry-level sport coupe category if they don't have an entry in the segment, though, can I!
Anyone remember the magazine comparo 'Four Wedges and a Bubble'? Acura RSX, Hyundai Tiburon, Mitsubishi Eclipse, Toyota Celica, Volkswagen New Beetle. Having the Beetle in the comparo is just sick... something from Mazda or Nissan should have been there in place instead. I'm tired of Volkswagen-worship in the media... they flat-out pan "Camry/Accord/Altima" as "boring" and then claim that the Passat is like Viagra or something.

Has anyone else noticed that?VW and Audi are treated as something special by the media but Toyota and Nissan never get a mention when their cars are better.
