I hope the the side and back looks as good as the front shot. Agressive and mature, what I would look for in the styling department.

It looks pretty good. You surely won't mistake it for another pick-up. But doesn't it look a little like the new Xterra copy-the FORD ESCAPE??

Now that's an great design. Have to see the other parts of the truck, though. I agree it looks similar to Ford escape, but the lamps are different. Any info on the non-supercharged engines, horsepower, etc.?

Hey tbear!
I think the most info we have was posted on the news section. But we've just learned that packaged with the supercharger option, the Frontier could get 17-inch wheels.
The non-supercharged engine output should stay the same.

What I like are the headlights. They look very futuristic with the psuedo twin projectors. Perhaps a bit more aggressive than most of the conservative trucks out there.
Could be another NDI "you love it or hate it" design? Could be what people want.

never had i ever said amber corners looked good on any car, but man, the twin missile launcher style looks mean.

Now that FA's posted a pic of the new 2001 Frontier before anyone else...tell us what you think of it so far?

WoW WoW WoW! http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum//images/icons/grin.gif
The 2001 Frontier looks great so far. Better than the current. Hopefully the rest will too. True that it does look like the Ford Escape but then again the Ford Escape looks like the Xterra. So if they bring out the 2001 Frontier in time people will definitely think that Ford is copying Nissan.
Is this redesign for all Frontiers or is it just for the king cab?
Also is this the first sign of the alliance?

The redesign is for all Frontiers. About it being related to the alliance, um I'm not sure. But it does look like a product of un-conservative management! http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum//images/icons/wink.gif

i think the new frontier looks pretty cool. i like the new headlights and the large air dam and circle fog lights (looks like circle fog lights are a new nissan trademark). if you look closely at the tailgate, it looks like there is a tailgate lock, this is a really good idea and i'm glad nissan put it on the frontier (they weren't first though, i believe tailgate locks are an option on some ford trucks). the black fender flares are a little strange looking, if they were smaller like the old fender flares it wouldn't be so bad. i'll have to see what it looks like in person before i can really say if i like it or not, but it is bold, something past nissan trucks have never been.

Over at pickuptruck.com they have some cool shots of the blue Frontier Crew Cab that Nissan showed in Chicago plus one picture of what looks like a yellow Desert Runner.

Possible Fullsize Nissan Truck?
http://www.pickuptruck.com/IMAGES/future/nissan/fullsize.gif
They need it to compete with the Toyota Tundra!

Well, the only possible way to compete with the Tundra, besides introducing fresh styling, is to top Toyota's engine. I say drop the biggest engine Nissan's got: the V8 from the Q as standard, making it highly tuned for power. That's pretty obvious, though. Nissan definitely has to top them, too, as performance is definitely an issue.

I think that's very likely since they probably won't want to spend the $$$ to develop an entirely engine. Of course they'll tune it for more torque than hp.
I only wonder if they'll convert it from aluminum block to iron block. That's what Toyota did when it converted the Lexus V-8 for truck/SUV applications.

Funny thing about the VH series engines, is that from talking to several Nissan drivetrain engineers here in Phx, is that they do have some trucks running around with the VH series V-8. It fits!!!

i think the fullsize nissan truck should be aimed more at the F150 and chevy silverado. the tundra is smaller than these (10 inches shorter than the silverado) and nissan should top toyota by making a truck that has larger dimensions and has a standard V6 with optional 4.5+ L V8. i've read that nissan is aiming more at an F-150. the tundra was completely unmentioned.

Looks like pickuptruck.com must have added more photos of the Frontier. Now they are including a shot of the Eaton supercharger and instrument panel. That engine looks pretty cool.

i think now that i've seen pictures of the new frontier floating around that it's starting to grow on me. i think it will be successful because even the last 3rd world designed frontier sold nearly 100,000 units on its ugly styling, so the new much better looking one should do better, especially since it has an available supercharger

goto www.nissan-usa.com (http://www.nissan-usa.com) to look at more pictures of the 2001 Frontier. What I thought at first were side markers, actually is a V-6 badge.

Click on the FA Community Forums to go back to our summary page and choose "Nissan Trucks and SUVs."
Therefore we're going to close this topic in this particular forum.
