im getting bored. soon i will complete my 240sx project and i need something to occupy my time after that. i am a poor high school student and i am not a master mechanic and i was wondering if anyone has any good ideas on project cars that i can attack. i was thinking i could try one of the old Z's but i dont know how hard they can be. i don't really care how fast it is in the 1/4 (13's are good enough for me) but i want a good auto-x car. remember i am a poor student with not a lot of mechanical experience but i can work my way around that. thanks for any info guys.

i think the 240z's are good for you. i dont have one but would like to have one. they kick butt in autox events here in cali. most of them just have basic setups too. you will learn how to work on them whether you like it or not. if you know how to work on your 240sx, you will have no problem working on the z. one advice is that you have to understand that it is 30+ years old...things need to be replaced. good luck on your project.

Pre the Z there were small roadsters the Datsun 1600 fairlady and Datsun 2000 fairlady they are quite nice my dad has one and they are cheap even in good condition. My dad paid about 7000 if not less for his in perfectly restored condition. They don't go fast they look kind of like Austin Healeys but I think they are cool. If you want to see what they look like go to www.datsun.org (http://www.datsun.org) . The engines are 4 cylinders twin carbs and just really basic.

I was in the same boat, just finished a 240, wanted something older, fun, just to have a project, got a 510, preferred it over a Z seems funner to me (driving wise), I might have done a roadster, but I live in seattle and would want a convertable if I got a roadster. Just a thought.
