Trading in my '00 Expedition since the wife has now gone from "loving her space in an SUV" to "damn I love driving your car, I want a 'fast' car NOW!" I have a '96 240sx SE w/ S15 SR20DET and many more...SO anyways, we went looking around and the first couple cars I suggested to her were Altima, Maxima, and WRX since they are roughly int he same price range ($23k-$28k)...well she drove the Altima and liked it, but once she stepped into the Maxima SE charcoal grey in color with black leather interior and Titanium Package, she fell in love http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/tongue.gif ...so I tell her lets wait and go see the WRX and see if you like it because its cheaper http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/blush.gif ...well she likes that too, with the exception of the interior (leather on the Maxima compared to sport seating in cloth on the WRX)...so I tell her it wouldnt be hard to put leather in that puppy http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif ...so now its time for us to decide, and I would like your guys' opinions...the Maxima drives GREAT and has that Luxury feel to it, while the WRX is more sporty and of course has that rally style to it...heres the catch if we get the Maxima, i will not be modding it whatsoever!...with the exception of maybe an intake upgrade, so my wife better be happy with the 255hp (unless Stillen comes out with an SC kit, then MAYBE http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/smirk.gif )...but if we get the WRX, im def modding that puppy...just to get to 300hp and that should be good enough http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif ....So opinions wanted please!!! thanks.

yeh, true...but the titanium package on a maxima is soooo sweet...has speed and luxury...plus we got 2 kids http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/blush.gif , and i think the maxima has a little bit more room in the back...damn it...i dunno what to do...im just gonna let her decide...because if i put in my .02 like i have with the last 3 cars shes had, she always regrets it...we'll see, we go to the dealership tomorrow http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif ...ill let you know what we get...

There is no way you're going to find a Max SE with leather and Titanium package for under $30k, you know?
Disregarding price, it's a tough choice. Comes down to drivetrain preference (FWD vs. AWD and styling opinions more than anything else. I doubt your wife will want any modifications to be done on the car (especially since it will be hauling the kids), but in the odd chance she does, the WRX is a better platform to build off of/

You already have a 240. Why get a WRX? If you could afford a Maxima, why not go all out and get a G35?

Nope, there is an Auto on the lot listed at $28,900 and a 6-speed on the lot listed at $27,900. We are more than likely going for the Maxima but are going to wait until the 1st of the year, for two reasons: the price is more negotiable and it looks like my mom is going to take over payments on the Expedition on the 1st, so I do not have to deal with BS salesman lowballing me on a trade offer http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/mad.gif ...Beleive me I would want a G35 but the lowest ive seen the sedans listed at here is $33k and thats about a $5k difference which would put my payments over my budget (~$500/month).

I would go for the WRX.....actually the WRX wagon. For some reason I really like it and it will have more cargo room than the Maxima.
Get the WRX!!! http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/tongue.gif

I have a WRX with Classic Soft Trim leather that was installed before I bought from the dealer. The leather put me over the top to sell my 240sx (gasp) and buy the Rex.
I was just with my brother-in-law tonight at the dealer helping him get a new Altima and I have to say they are pretty sweet and a great deal for the money. I think a loaded Altima is pretty damn close to Maxima in most aspects...maybe lacking in that extra level of refinement, but on my bro-in-law's car it didn't seem to be lacking in any area.
I think if your wife likes the 240 w/ SR, she will obviously like the similar turbo setup in the WRX w/ AWD. Everyday, I don't know about though. My wife likes it, but I don't know if she would want to drive it daily. She would probably choose the Altima or Max for her everyday car.
