In the January 2003 issue of CR(page 52) the Saturn L series is rated dead LAST among 11 midsized cars. Sebring, Malibu, Galant, Sonata, Legacy, S40, Altima, Camry, Passat and Accord were all rated above the L. This is in CR's performance testing. CR also states reliability as being worse than average. On page 56, there is a picture of a huge GAP in the dashboard.
CR now rates the 4 cylinder Accord above the Passat for best family sedan.
On page 96 of Automobile Magazine....the first sentence of the article reads as follows..."After foisting the forgettable S-series onto 2.4 million customers since 1990, Saturn delivers another MEDIOCRE small car, the ION sedan and Quad Coupe." The article goes on to say..."the engine sounds course. The manual gearbox is just okay... ...The Braille-dot-esque mold pattern of the interior plastics was clearly inspired by Volkswagen, but the tactile quality is APPALLING, nothing like the class-leading materials in a Golf or a Jetta. There are some clever ideas here, but overall, the ION is a DISAPPOINTMENT, even with its low, $12,000 entry price."
