View Full Version : Murano vs, FX
I took a Murano home for a couple of days to test drive. I love the car. It is a bit rough around the edges. I am not that keen on the transmission.(seems to drag the car when slowing down or coasting). The engine is noisy on revs. And the ride is a bit rough. Otherwise very good car. Now my question is why should I wait for an FX35 and pay 6 or 7 K more. THis dealer will go at least $1000 under sticker on the Murano. My infinty dealer also tells me they will not have any Fx's until January 26th. Maybe this is the second delivery, the first delivery being already sold?? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Itook the Murano for a short test drive and thought it was good. I just can't see where the FX is going to be a almost 20,000 better vehicle. It is the same size (within 1or 2inches.I am sure it will out perform /more hsp/lot more toys.It almost looks like the same interior as the FX.The Murano I drove was loaded except for Nav. if you can get it for 33,000 or so and a FX 35 will be arund 45

The Muranos I've seen in the LA area are stickered around 39K and up. Not quite comfortable paying that for a Nissan (maybe for an FX35) especially when you consider the Infiniti dealer service. It is a cool-looking vehicle though.

Test drive and Altima and a G35 back to back. That will probably be a good indicator of the difference between the Murano and FX, which share those respective platforms. I suspect the FX will be more of a performance machine while the Murano will have more appliance/utility/grocery-getter DNA. Murano should be more than adequate for most families, while the FX is for those who want a more exciting drive on their ski trips. http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif

Is the FX going to replace the QX4? 'Cos my wife and I are considering trading our 2001 Toy Highlander for either the Nissan Murano or Infiniti FX35 in about two years. If not, then when will Infiniti plan on bringing out the new QX4 body style?

there is word that even though the QX4 is ending production as of now, it will come back as a QX55 with a 5.5 or 5.6L engine in a full size SUV size-to compete with LX/GX from LEXUS, and ESCALADEs, etc...looking forward to that, we gotta good two years though... http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

The QX4 as we know it is over with...never to return. The FX is the replacement for it. In January of 2004 the new full size 7000 lb SUV will debut. It will probably be called QX something but will bear no resemblance to the QX4. Just a reuse of the letters

Mossballs, where on earth did you get your price guesstimates for FX45?
Look, a loaded Murano will set you back mid- to high-$30K range.
FX35 should start around mid-$30K. FX45 should start low- to mid-$40K range, and top out around $50K.
The price differential is in-line with the superior Infiniti product's advantages.

Big:
I live in MN. I went to the local dealer and the car I drove was a loaded Murano. The only option it didn;t have was the Nav. system. The cost was 33,800. I could have bought it for $33,000.00 The Infiniti dealer in Minneapolis said that the FX45 which I put $500.00 down on two months ago would come in around 52K this is the loaded FX(liquid Copper/roof rack/tech package/rims etc. When I asked about the difference in price between the 45/35. they said there would be about 4500.00 between aloaded 35/loaded 45. I am hope there will be at least 60hsp more in the 45.

But I still don't see where your $20K price differnetial comes into play if you compare an FX35 to a Murano, which is the closest we'll get to an apples to apples comparo.
A decently equipped FX35 compared to a decently equipped Murano give theoretical a price difference of just a few thousand dollars, not too bad considering the FX35's advantages versus the Murano (FM platform, weight distrubution, interior quality IMHO, power, creature comforts, features and available options).
A loaded FX45 is not a good comparison to a Murano by any measure. A BASE Murano versus a LODAED FX45 may net you a $20K difference, but that is not a good comparison at all.
You've got to look at comparable models - you would not compare a BMW 528i to a Mercedes-Benz E500 - you'c compare the BMW to an E320.

well if you were to be buying a new car you wouldnt be comparing a 528i at all. You'd be comparing a 530i to the e320.
Just trying to be a little technical. http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif
Yes. A lot of people are forgetting that the Murano is FWD FF Altima platform based, while the FX is FM, G35 RWD based.
