Is Nissan/Infiniti going to discontinue the QX4 in '04 now that they have the FX series and also since it is a copy of the Pathfinder? Or does the Q-by-4 have a future as an Infiniti product?

I will love to see a remodeled QX4 with the 5.6 V8 in the titan. I think with the murano and fx series trucks, nissan needs to make a fullsize suv or remodel the qx4/pathfinder and stick bigger engines in them. However, real world scenario show that the qx4 and pathfinder might be scraped. http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/frown.gif http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/frown.gif

Nobody knows what the Nissan SUV line-up is shaping up to look like so how can anybody know what Infiniti's will look like? Infiniti plans on rebadging the full-size Nissan SUV, so obviously SUV rebadges are in their plan.
Here's what I think Nissan's SUV line-up will look like come 2005:
X-Trail or some other small car-based cute-ute ($17k - $22k)
XTerra stays approx. the same size ($20k - $28k)
Pathfinder grows 3rd seat to compete with Explorer/4Runner with more luxury($27k - $36k)
Murano ($28k - $34k)
Full-size ($36k - $45k)
Infinti will have the FX35 starting right where the Murano leaves off, and the QX55 starting where the full-size Nissan leave off. I hope the QX55 is not nearly as big as the full-size Nissan is rumored to be, which is between an Expedition and a Surburban!
Something has to be an Explorer competitor (it is the highest selling SUV right now.) Either the XTerra grows up or the Pathfinder remains mid-size. If the Pathfinder stays mid-size I see it growing a 3rd seat and moving up in price like the 4Runner, eliminating the QX4 like the 2004 Maxima eliminated the need for the I35. I guess the XTerra could have an Infiniti rebadge (or the XTrail) but that's a stretch. Really there is no room for another $30k SUV with the Murano, FX35, full-size, and either XTerra/Pathfinder (whichever one is mid-sized.) Same goes for a $40k SUV, there is already the FX35, FX45, full-size Nissan and full-size Infiniti (probably comes in just under $50k.)

From reading the boards and comment by Nissan, I believe the QX4 is being replaced by the new full-sixe SUV that will be shared by Nissan/Infiniti and built in Canton, MS. The rumored name is the QX55, and it will be out at the end of the year, and will probably be unveiled at the NY Auto show in April.

Maybe Infiniti will keep the QX4 to compete with the new Lexus SUV offering (I think it's called the LX470 or something like that and plus it's based on the new PoorRunner so you would think the next gen PFinder will be the basis for a QX4 rebadge) since the FX35 would compete with the RX330. The yet to be released full-size ute would compete with Lexus' rebadged version of the Land Bruiser.

Nissan is not going to sell Pathfinder and Murano next to each for long... dealer can't handle 10+ models. I expect the full-size to replace the Pathfinder, meaning that if you want a Nissan midsize SUV, you will have to go for the Pinot Grigiot of midsizers (Murano). http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif

The last year for the QX4 is this year, 2003. After that, the QX4 is gone.

Really to bad. Have had 3 Qx4 (latest 03) My wife loves everything about the qx4's and wants for nothing else. I have a fx35, she loves it, enjoys riding in it but has no desire to drive it. She thought this was going to be a replacemaent for the QX... we all know now, it's not. The final product (03 QX4) has been perfected enough to make this her car for many years to come.

Read in the recent issue of automobile mag which has a complete review of SUV's that production has stopped for 2003 QX4's.

That is correct. It has stopped, but it will continue with the 2004 QX55/QX56...which ever it is... http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

I should check that article out, I seem to have missed it when I was flipping through @ Borders the other night (which is just down the street from Automobile Mag editorial offices).

well they just launched the armada to replace the pathfinder and we know the pathfinder spawned the QX4, so it appears thats our answer.

The midsize Pathfinder's fate has yet to be made official. New reports have the Armada dropping its first name just in time for a redesigned Pathfinder.

It's GX430, the only model that Infiniti has against it is FX45, which is superior than GX430 in every way. Now Infiniti lacks a full-size SUV to compete with Lexus LX470, Lincoln Aviator/Navigator and Caddy's Escalade. And about the QX4, I think Nissan should keep it in the Infiniti line-up to compete with Lexus RX330, but it needs to be redesigned and more upgrades and luxurious interior. I dont think Nissan should drop it.

It's GX430..
Actually, it's called GX470.

The QX55 will compete with the GX470 (LX470 is obsolete,) Navigator, and Escalade. The FX competes with the RX300, MDX, X5, ML, and Caddy SRX.
The Aviator is the odd-man out. At $38,000 it is in a class alone with the QX4 and the LR Discovery. Why would Infiniti want to compete with solely Lincoln and the poor-selling Discovery?
