Now why do Toyota have the limited plate on some of their SUVs when they are not even in limited productions? The Highlander Limited, Seqioua Limited, 4Runner Limited, and maybe Tundra Limited. If they are lable as Limited, shouldn't they not only be about couple of hundreds or thousands built. Maybe one per Toyota dealerships besides two, three, or four at the dealerships. If I want something Limited, I want mine to be the only one out there on the road and see another one like mine only once in a while. What is Limited consider to Toyota anyway?

Toyota's "Limited" label is given to their top of the line products. Somewhat like the "t" used to be for Infiniti or the "GLE" for Nissan. I agree that if they don't come in limited supply they should get another label, but that's how they do it.

Pontiac and other marques used "SE" for their base models. Most people think 'SE' means 'Special Edition'.

Ford should make the base (XLS trim) Explorer the "Eddie Bauer" model... that would trick Joe Q Fordbuyer and increase sales [ http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif ] ... the current 'Eddie Bauer' could become the "Eddie Bauer Special Patagonia Cruiser Edition" Explorer.

If you didn't understand that, then I'll just give you the simple formula for the exam: "Limited" => "give us More $" http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I know my mother would rather have an "Eddie Bauer" than a "XLS" Explorer even if they were the same name. Just like having a "Mercury Mountaineer" over the same stupid blue-oval version, back in the 1990s when they were practically same inside AND out.

The Subaru Outback is just a Legacy, raised, with two-tone body cladding. Yet my parents love the Outback lineup and shun the Legacy... and my Dad, who doesn't like to pay more than he has to, says he would buy another Outback.

When McDonald's dumped "Medium" so that they could have 'small', 'large', and 'super-size'... I knew it was only a matter of time until automakers started using "limited" or "premium" trim names fof the base models. I think Lincoln already does this...

Sorta like:
Tall (small)
Grande (medium)
Venti (large)

Basically, a pig by any other name is still a pig.
