It is well known that the 2003 Maxima has a problem with having headlights be easily stolen. Anti-theft system could not stop the thieves from stealing the headlights. Each headlight assembly costs about $2000. Nissan knows about the problem. Is this problem fixed in 2004 models?

You really shouldn't even worry about that at this point in time because you don't have people with an older version of your car that wants the upgrades on your car. The 04 lights cant fit on any car except another 04. 2003 Maxima lights could still fit the 2000-01 and some of those owners wanted the HID's. Now that is no worry. But it would be nice if Nissan did fix this.

Headlights are <$1300.00 per pair for the 2000-2003.

The only place I've seen this happen is on the east coast and the Maxima's insurance rates haven't increased as a result so that tells me it's not that big an issue FOR MOST OWNERS.
As usual, you exaggerate the problem with your "$2000 per headlight". Go bash some other make, troll!

Funny you mention this. There was a letter from a reader to car and driver about this situation with Accord and TL. Apparently, people or thieves were stealing the light unit from the TL for their accords or what not as it was a retrofit for HIDs.
Since both Maxima and I35 came with HIDs, it wasn't that big of a problem. And with the redesign, It won't fit anything else.

well as living in manhattan and also knowing about these thieves in my neighborhood i can tell you that headlight theft is real and a BIG problem here.I WILL NOT LEAVE MY 2002 IN THE STREET FOR MORE THAN 2 HOURS! A friend got his 02 lights stolen in 2 hours on Madison ave. (86 st. REAL NICE NEIGHBORHOOD) one of 2 incidents in 6 months of having his car. he eventually sold it. someone who parks a TL in my garage got theirs stolen and it cost him 3,000 to fix the damage the crowbar left in his front end. O yea ever hear of the headlight BULBS? the maximas BULBS are the most wanted here in nyc they produce the best light in the Honda CIVICs that pollute my neighborhood. My friend has maxima lights in his and they are killer bright! The idiots that took the TL lights did not realize this and left my maxima lights alone thank god since i park across the garage from him (must have thought only honda lights work in hondas and only toyota lights in toyotas)...they did try a GS 300 But they left his lights when they saw they were regular halogen they left his headlight just hanging by the wires.... so yes just cause they are shaped diffrent the problem still hasnt been fixed...THE THIEVES ARE STILL OUT THERE AND THATS THE PROBLEM! DO NOT SUPPORT HID BLACK MARKET THANK YOU! and im out..... http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

well i was at my local nissan dealer and i chatted with my favorite service rep and service manager and they both assured me that nissan has fixed the major problem with 2002 headlights. The 2004 Maxima has its ballast box buried deep within the car with wires running to the front Bi-xenon headlights. I would have thought they thought of that the first time.. so there will not be as big a draw if they arent so easy to get..will be a lot of work to get the ballast...so LONG LIVE HID'S and the Nissan designers who realize this as a serious problem...looks like ima have to upgrade to a 04 sooner than i thought http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Acura CLs/TLs have HIDs standard. What's your point about Honda-bashing then?

Also, Honda S2000's have HID's as well. I am not a Honda basher. They are nice cars. I prefer my Nissan, tho.
