Right now I'm thinking Lincoln/Mercury. Nothing good has come out of there in decades.
I 2nd that. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Lincoln-Mercury is just an arm of Ford, Buick is just an arm of GM. Look, the boring old people have to drive something.
I'd like to see Mitsubishi get canned. We have no need for "Japanese Pontiacs"! Then again, it's simpler to spot the lamers easily, just look for the Eclipses and Lancers.

Volkswagen. I only say that b/c they are unfair to their customers by producing unreliable cars, then s---ing on their customers. Especially when it comes to safety recalls.

Then what do you have to say about Audi ?
M_TYPE_X

Audi being simply pricey Volkswagens and/or a "Bauhaus Styling Arm", we can throw them in with VW too.
HitlerWagen and Shitshubishi... baibai-! BAIBAI!
[what did these companies ever do to you, MTX? sob sob http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/frown.gif]
MTX,
Allow to phrase it the right way:
VW - Auf Wiedersehen !!.
Shitsubishi - [japanese characters won't show up, but you get the picture] (Sayonara).

Cayenne is in the Ann Arbor dealer (Howard Cooper Honda/Volkswagen-Audi/Porsche)... I also saw it at Bill Cook (Nissan/Mazda/Volkswagen-Audi/Porsche) in Farmington Hills last weekend. I'm STILL trying to figure out why anyone would want to buy a Porsche SUV. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Re my new Saturn thread and my reading of 'Rings of Saturn' (silly book, the guy kissed GM ass too much) along with my reading of "The Sad Saga of Saturn" [autoextremist.com], I have to say...
CAN Saturn. GM Corporate still hates their own basstard child... and we all know we don't like Saturn either... so everyone who matters has weighed in (don't worry about Saturn buyers, they'll go over to Shitrolet, Hitlerwagen, or Shitshubishi).
Hey! Stop drinking the Haterade!!! http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/mad.gif
I'd have to say Ford in general...pinto (115 burnt alive) & town cars (~20 burnt alive) & crown vics (over 5 police officers dead b/c items in trunk puncture gas tanks!, bronco II (some 100 people died in non-accident rollovers) and now the explorer (270 people dead from just rollovers caused by simple blowout of a tire!)...then the 5 million cars sold over the past decade that suffer from premature failure of the ignition coil (b/c placed too close to the engine) causing the car to stall and not start...over 40 dead from those alone)...there's actually a whole website (www.flamingfords.com) dedicated that collects all these items and facts and after reading that site i'd think consumers are safer without such a careless company

SATURN for me!
And i agree with the above about Ford. i remember a run in the 70's of Ford LTD's that did not have the radiator fans bolted on and a few people were killed due to no bolts on the fan blades. Seems like it was hushed right after it all took place. It is amazing to me that people forget and keep buying products from this nasty company.

I change my mind to say Mitsubishi. Eclipse is the answer to the question "Why not build an underpowered Mustang for women?" The Lancer looks like ass, the Galant and Diamante are as exciting as shuffleboard, and the 4 SUVs either flip or are worst in class. The 3000 GT is dead, the Eclipse is dead. The Evo VIII could have saved them, but it looks horrible and is way overpriced. $30k for a Focus competitor! Performance is no better than the 350Z so why pay more dough? They should be shot for that dancing girl commercial anyway http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I note no one has said "Honda"! Probably because of MTX's reign of terror http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I won't be mean to Honda though, instead I'll grant it a reprieve and instead suggest Toyota get the bullet. Yes, eliminate Mercury. Lincoln must remain to build the Town Car just because it's so very cool as a rolling livingroom! Then give the whole automotive side of Ford Motor Company to Mazda. Next, nix Honda! Why you ask? Because I'm tired of seeing all these lowered Civics and Integras. Last but not least, (besides Mercury)have you ever seen three more pointless entities as Pontiac, GMC and Saturn? Trim that crap! Oh yeah, do something about Scion.
Gees, now I'm all tuckered out. That's my take on this one.

squid/jdw looks like he's worried about the Sales Competition... too bad you gotta actually sell instead of 'eliminate the competition'... back to selling those turkeys, dude!
Ben: Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisi... er nobody expects THE SILVER BULLET! [yeah hi AutoCrap World, I must say I'm most pleased with my Deluxe Rubber Floor Mats, but do you guys carry Moonroof-Mounted Gun Turrets for stock base Integras? I need more mods for my "Reign of Terror" as the 'Torque' mod on my car isn't working. Charge to my account please, thanx!]

I think all Saturn are garbage, I thought they were decent till the day I was forced to drive one. Hyundai are just straight ugly period, I've tried to look at those car from different angles but they are still ugly...I wont even mention the mechanical. As for Dodge, I'll take that one back. However, I would like to add Pontiac to the [censored] can list. I think their cars are crap all together, with the exception of the Firebird Ram Air. I guess I don't like these car because I had a few bad driving experience driving them.

Test drive a 2003 Tiburon and get back to us on Hyundai. The rest of the lineup, yes, funky KDM.
No one cares here for Saturn, Chevrolet, or Pontiac outside of a few examples (Saturn when it first came out, Camaro/Firebird)... GM doesn't need to get canned, it needs to retain its market share so that the majority of cars on the road are boring POS boxes and thus someone with a Honda or Nissan or Mazda or Volkswagen or whatever can enjoy being different.

05-05-2003, 09:19 PM
Buick
Lincoln-Mercury
Hyundai-Kia
Scion
Suzuki(sp?) - they should stick to bikes as a person mover
Chevrolet - minus the Corvette.....just label the car "Corvette" not "Chevy Corvette" or "Cheverolet Corvette"
M_TYPE_X
05-05-2003, 11:56 PM
I'd toss Isuzu and Suzuki who are becoming merely nameplates for rebadged Chevrolets and Daewoos. Saturn is putting out nothing but junk now, so can them. SCION needs to get shot before the boats arrive.
Hyundai-Kia: Toss the Accent/lower end of Hyundai's lineup and stop trying to take Kia so upscale. Sorento now, and now a big sedan coming this Fall (see Edmunds)? Crazy. They have a Volkswagen-Audi approach to shooting their own success apparently.
Buick stays until Toyota completely blows them out of the water.
Chrysler and Dodge are useless to me. Celine Dion plus mullet appeal. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/confused.gif The lineup is a bad fusion of Mercedes and Mitsubishi, two automakers I don't care about either. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Oh man... you're kidding right? Dodge is on fire. The Ram simply kicks the Silverado out the door with the Hemi V8. And if I had the money, I would be first on the list for the Magnum. I can't wait to see how Dodge is gonna overhaul it's car lineup from the cab-forward 90s.

Acura - if they come out with a new NSX, they can be spared. Also, the TSX needs some more power. Get rid of RL.
Audi - keep if they don't make the VW/Porsche/Audi SUV.
BMW - put more money in the 6 series and stop trying with the X3.
Buick - can
Cadillac - can, only make exotics like the XLR?(corvette based) and real luxury with V-12 or V-16. Should be relegated to making limos.
Chevrolet - can except for Corvette and full size trucks
Chrysler - can except for Crossfire
Dodge - can except for Viper and full size trucks. If they ever have any good RWD sports cars in the future, they can stay.
Ford - keep only F-150s and Escapes.
GMC
Honda - saw a Element concept car at the NY auto show without the body armor. Take off the body armor and Honda should be in good shape. Also, they need to make a real si.
Hummer - H2 interior needs a redesign real bad.
Hyundai - keep only Tiburon and Santa Fe
Infiniti - Hope they get a better Q45
Isuzu - I used to like them, but now they're getting to be rebadged GM's so they should be canned.
Jaguar
Jeep - can the Liberty
Kia - Keep the Rio and Sorrento
Land Rover - bring back the defender, can the freelander
Lexus - can the GX470
Lincoln - as someone else suggested, keep the town car.
Mazda - they're in good shape now.
Mercedes-Benz - can the c-class and c-coupe and never bring over the A-class.
Mercury - why do they exist?
MINI
Mitsubishi - can everything except for Evo and make an off road ready Montero.
Nissan - stop making cars with 4 cylinder engines unless it's a V-6 that can shut down unused cylinders for fuel economy.
Oldsmobile - can
Pontiac - can it unless they bring back a real Firebird.
Porsche - ostracise the Cayenne
Saab - no hard feelings, just that they're overpriced. If they bring an SUV, I'll despise them.
Saturn - keep the Vue, but only in Red line edition as seen at the NY auto show.
Subaru - needs a better looking Baja and Forestor. If they can't do that, those two models need to be canned.
Suzuki - I like the Aerio for some reason.
Toyota - redesign the redesigned Prius shown at the auto show. Can the Matrix. Can the Echo and Rav4.
Volkswagen - Can all of their cars that have less than 180hp.
Volvo - Looking good

Take this, MTX http://www.admin.uiuc.edu/logo/gifs/UILogoCL1c.gif http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I did get carried away though. Waay too far off topic. The one company that should get canned due to there not being a reason for its existence is Mercury. Buick and Olds still serve the purpose of providing cars for the older crowd. Saturn has the Red line Vue.
M_TYPE_X
05-07-2003, 08:13 PM
The Red Line VUE will be a joke. A flying plastic miniSUV?! hahaha http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Mercury's purpose was to sell prepped-up Fords and it always has. The only problem is that redressed Taurus and Explorer models aren't much more exciting than the blue oval badge versions, because you can't do much more with these tired old cars.
