I see that the Maxima has those nice, big pipes exiting the back, so I was wondering how the car sounds. Does it have a nice exhaust note, or is it pretty much quiet like the previous generations?

I would say it's quieter than the 5th generation from my test drive but that was only for 10 minutes. The auto transmission shifted sooner so the RPM's stayed lower, so that also helped keep it quiet. The wind noise against the windows seemded quieter too. It's not as noisy as the G35 can be when both are floored.

It's pretty quiet. There's enough engine noise in the cabin that you can hear the beatiful melody, but it's restrained. No cabin vibrations or exhaust noise, either. The sound all seems to come from the engine compartment. What's really amazing is how quiet it is outside the car. I had the salesman stomp on the accelerator while I stood back by the tailpipes. Just about nothing. The engine actually sounded louder than the exhaust, which doesn't really seem possible. The engine didn't feel restricted at all.
