From 7/00 Automobile (note the last message which is dead on!):

2001 INfinit QX4

According to the World Almanac, figts of tin or aluminum are traditionally given to mark twn-year anniversaries. This April, Infiniti celebrated its tenth year by fibing its dealers a new aluminum v6 for the 2001 QX4, no doubt with a red ribbon on top.

The previous QX4 was rather breatless, with a meager 170hp and 200 lb/ft of torque to motivate its two-ton plus bulk. By comparion, the muscular new 3.5L v6 offers 240 hp and 265 lb / ft of torque making the QX4 feel as if it switched to a diet of Amino Fuel and creatine. It fairly leaps off the line, charging from 0-60mph in an athletic 9.1 seconds. The improved acceleration at highway speeds is even more remarkable, and passing on two lane road is now an empowering experience.

In addition to the new engine, the 01 QX4 has a new front fascia, high intensity discharge xenon headlights, and a new interior with standard in dash six disc CD changer and optional navigation system. Also, a 2 wheel drive QX4 will be offered for the first time. The majority of buyers however will wisely choose the four wheel drive version. With an automatic torque transfer system, a low range transfer case, and an optional limited slip rear differential, the 4 wheel QX4 is one of the rare sport utes that is equally will suited for foul weather and off road use.

The only disconcerting note in this anniversary celebration is that Nissan also gave the same new engine gift to the 2001 Pathfinder. And come this fall, the PAthfinder also will have the QX4;s sophisticated and heretofore exclusive- four wheel drive system. Evidently, the one thing Nissan is relectunt to give inifiniti is meanifingful exclusivity.

There is someone very dumb in high position at Nissan (maybe more than one) but I don't think it's in the North American Division. I say this because it was the North American division that had to protest heavily just for 5 more horses out of the engine that would be put in the I30. If not TL would still have 3 more horses(it still has more torque though) but the worst thing would be that basicly nothing would seperate I30 from Maxima besides styling, a sunshade, and some HID lights and the navigation system is only available in selected regions. http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/rolleyes.gif

The first time I heard that QX4 and PATH will get the same engine, I new there was a problem. I wonder why the North America division didn't protest for more hp for the QX4, 270hp and 295lbs of torque would have been sweet, it would make it go faster than a ML-430 but for half the price. Internal competition is already a problem at Nissan when they don't even have a lot of cars in their line-ups yet.

I feel the same way you guys do, but in this case, the mistake was made in '97 when Nissan first exported the Terrano Regulus (QX4) to the states. The only thing different between the PF and QX back then was AWD, 16" wheels, softer leather, and more plastic cladding, not to mention about $4000. I don't see the problem with the PF having the AWD now, since its main rivals have such systems, namely the 4Runner. Also, both PF and QX are selling well, but yes, when the next generations of these vehicles come out, the same mistake shouldn't be made, Renault influence should assure that.

I think the qx4 will be getting a v8 pretty soon. I doubt the pf will be getting the same engine because they will probably make a new suv from the full sized truck.

Nissan isn't the only company that does this, toyota/lexus does the same thing with the es300 and the land cruiser.
