View Full Version : Why didn't Xterra get a face lift as Frontier?
Xterra is supposed to be Frontier based SUT, in that case why didn't it get a face lift?

the Xterra is pretty new. i think it can go a few more years before any facelift, unless the rumored supercharger won't fit under the current hood. in that case, nissan could put a bulge in the hood or put the new frontier fascia/hood on it
What I am saying is Xttera looks just like the Frontier and Xttera did come out one year after Frontier did. So is this means since Xttera probably will get the Supercharged engine in '02 it will also be likely to get a face lift?

I have a good theory on why the Xterra didnt change but the Frontier did.The Xterra is selling hot,the Frontier on the other hand had complaints by the media of being to "plain".Sales were boosted by the crew cab but the whole line was missing some sales. So, Nissan changed what needed help and left alone what didnt (If it aint broke, dont fix it!).Personally,I think a body colored grille on the X at least as an option would have been nice.

The Xterra have been very good to Nissan,
So if it's not broke, don't fix it http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif

The Frontier came out in 97 as a 98 model... and XTERRA came out in 99 as a 2000 model... so there are two years apart...

The 2002 Xterra will be getting the supercharged engine that the 2001 Frontier has and the body will be redesigned similar to the 2001 Frontier.

I guess I'm the lone dissenting voice on the Frontier's new front end but when I saw it I thought for the first time that the original Frontier was actually quite handsome. Give me plain over just plain ugly any day. As for the Xterra getting the same body work . . .well, I've already said what I think.

I have to admit, as much as I like Nissans and owning a 94 HB, I thought the Frontier's front end styling was a little "weenified" compared to my HB's smooth front end. The Xterra on the other hand looked much tougher when it was released, why change a good thing?

i still love the styling on my hardbody. the first frontiers were ok... but the new ones just look goofy.

The new Frontiers are great looking. I just wonder how all that exterior body cladding will hold up through age??? I actually thought the interior needed more help than it recieved (like a totally new interior)....the new exterior needed an interior too match! I think the Desert Runner with the non-body color front end is the best looking of the group..the black front nose makes it look tougher....
What do you think?

I think that I like the painted bumpers/fenders better but if i bought that truck i would probably rip the front bumper off myself and replace it with an ARB or eventually nature will rip it off for me. I love everything about the new face lift other than how low and far the new bumper sticks out/ less clearance
