If you were to pick a vehicle, truck or (gulp) SUV from the past or present Nissan lineup for mainly camping (remote areas) and hauling lumber/drywall, what would it be and why? if you say truck, let's assume extended cab.

wanted to pick your brain a little. (not pick your little brain)

i'd go for a Xterra 4x4 SE for offroading and interior space. the roof rack can hold plenty of stuff if you're camping. that'd probably be the perfect vehicle for it

I agree, the Xterra is pretty stout. I also think the 1st Generation Pathfinder is an excellent choice. The new Pathfinders are great, but if I spent $32k on a truck I'd be pretty reluctant to take it off road for a while. For the ultimate in off-road capability the Patrol would be my choice. But for something to carry my gear in you cant argue with a more modern truck or SUV.

One quick question, do you plan on hauling the lumber/drywall in the bed, or do you have a trailer?

you have to hang it out the back and tilt it, but 4x8 sheets of wood will fit in the Xterra with the seats down.

as for camping, etc., there is no qyestion the Xterra would work well. I love mine! http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif

I would pick the Crew cab with a shell. You have the best of both.

I would get a 2000 Patrol cab chassis with the 4.5 L6, Nissan doesn't make anything tougher than the Patrol.
