I don't have kids so I'm up for a drive on Father's day.

Btw, earlier there was some discussion of doing an overnighter? Anyone up for it?

I'm game for whatever. I'm Chinese so we don't believe in Father's Day...just kidding. I'm in Baltimore so anywhere in the DC, VA, lower PA area is good for me. Somebody please PM me if it's going to go down.

I lost some stars (oh no!) after I posted what was perceived (even though it totally wasn't) as an anti-MT thread. Some people are soooo sensitive.

would it impress to show up w/a fleet of cars? whats for dinner? what shopuld I wear? ok , ok, real stuff. 4 hours out 4 hours back, anybody else time requirements, Chris are you driving your M w/K or riding? Maybe 2 camps 1 long (Jimmy? Me?, who else) and a the be back at 5:30 crew. If this is good we could get to 250 via 211 and split when time requires. Many of these smaller roads along the way may be quite interesting too. I have no use for gravel though, we may turn around as needed when trying some small roads. Nice lunch or quickie? take a chance on a hole in the wall or go w/brand name or known quantity? anyone not willing to leave parts of tire around curves http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif ?

Okay, we should really meet earlier in the morning. Meet at around 8:30 and leave passport at 9am. By lunch time, we'll go to some "hole in the wall" in the middle of nowhere, all part of the experience. I just hope 250 won't be jammed with trucks. Also, bring a 2-way radio if you have one, or bring 2 if you have 2. There will be no cell-phone reception where we're going, so radio's are the only way to communicate. They cost like $50 a pair at bestbuy, not a bad investment if you plan on going to more of these drives with the club.

Heres some other roads we can consider.

Western, Route 43. Twisty, low traffic density, good road condition. Just North of Roanoke Rte 43 runs between the Blue Ridge Parkway and Rte 11 in Buchanan VA. Albeit a short run, it's a roller coaster. Very steep with continous hairpin turns. This road is not for the inexperienced rider as one slip and you will die.

Shenandoah mountains, route 250. Both scenic and twisty, good road condition. Head west on Rt. 250 from Skyline Drive. This is THE road. It goes through the Shenendoah mountains and the Allegheny mountains, twisting and turning up and down the mountains all the way. Good pavement the whole way, little gravel, very little traffic, overall an excellent road. The corners were incredible. Some corners felt like they were circling all the way back to where you started from and most turns were followed by another similar turn in the other direction! These roads are NOT for the beginner rider. You can return east on Rt. 33.

Route 33. Off of Skyline Drive, headed west into the mountains and into West Virginia. This road is absolutely great, super tight corners, lots of elevation changes, constant switchbacks, and a great view to boot.

Western, route 16. Very twisty, good road condition, but be careful of stone and rocks in the street. North from Marion to Tazewell, it is very twisty and unforgiving of rider mistakes. South of Marion there are some open straight stretches, with tight S-turns between them.

Okey Dokey...for all of us slower people (i.e., ME). The final details are as follows (please confirm or deny).

SATURDAY, JUNE 14, 2003

-Meet @ 8:30 AM @ Passport Infiniti located on 160 South Pickett Street, Alexandria, VA 22304
-Leave Passport @ 9 AM in our phat rides (yeah we're ballers)
-9AM to Noon drive around (I am not a performance driver but I will do my best to keep up)
-Noon we break for lunch at some joint
-1 PM we keep on driving or those of you who need to bail can roll out I guess

Is this right? Just a suggestion that everyone check this thread before leaving tomorrow in case some goes awry. Also, they are calling for scattered T-Storms in Alexandria. Just a forewarning.

currently heading north to PA looks a little safer per weather channel

Mark
for the earlier posts about losing the pack, after some harder driving, I always wait (or go considerbly slower)for the rest to come up. It is a group http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif, you travel the slowest members speed or break up into smaller groups and meet at a desiginated point. I won't travel that fast on the hwy, don't think wwe broke 80, more comfy 75 and under myself http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/cool.gif

It's 2 AM and I just checked the weather forecast. Looks like scattered T-Storms all morning (till about noon and then a break but storms back at 3 PM). I'm willing to brave it. I'm all for heading away from the storm but it seems a little late. I'll be in Alexandria tomorrow (this morning). Hope to see some of you there.

John, Eric, Trish, Victor, Startertan (I'm bad with REAL names), I apologize about the length of today's activities.

I would like to start planning our next drive and this time our route will be preset and plotted for time and mileage. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I had a GREAT time. We all LEARNED2TURN better. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

We passed Crazy Accidents, so we knew we were on the right road!

Suzanne will get the best autoX time of the whole club, she is fearless.

A HUGE thanks to all. My driving skill requires maintenance, so keep chasing me through the turns and catch me if you can. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/cool.gif

were you behind me???lol. Your skills are fine (much better than mine!), you are short 2 cylanders, VDC, ABS, larger tires, etc. but could cut a lot of noise.

No 100 + runs for me, My insurance is as cheap as it gets (due to being a "good" driver statiscally) and 1 ticket will make a substatial difference.

I am sorry it surprised people how long it took to get there (the fun part). I remember it being a little closer but so much for my memory. When $ (Jimmy)and I went before, 1 less stop, didn't take 3-4 light cycles, left "on time" (only the 2 of us from house), ate faster food, had a full tank of gas, etc.; at least 1/2 hour time saving. We have suggested spending the night in Staunton to leave immediately onto 250(there is more to the road http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif ). There is a similar route through PA on Route 6 that should be started at the point on entry also. If we were to go south to NC, the Dragon's something is suppose to be very special, again spendiing the night somewhere. There is a closer but not as challanging run up the Susquahanna(sp) River which we could try where everyone would be back "on time" . I have done a few times, once w/Jimmy ($) ending in, or at least we did, in the Amish country east of Reading?(discount shopping and food open Sat not Sun)

If there are any closer routes please post details.

Enjoyed myself and all, looking fowward to seeing everyone and going again!! http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Hey, this is off-topic kinda, but applies for this group -

Two weeks from now, it's the GM Autoshow in Motion at FedEx Field. I know, it's GM, but they are going to have lots of non-GM cars there as well to flog around several driving courses. It's free and I registered for Sunday (11am) and it looks like there is still wide-open availability.

http://hercules.reltec.com/pls/asim/frmMain.Show

From the FAQ:
There will be over 100 vehicles for you to choose from, including Cadillac, Lexus, HUMMER, Mercedes-Benz, Buick, Toyota, Corvette, Saturn, Saab, Pontiac, Nissan, Chevrolet, Honda and GMC.

Refreshments provided, bring a guest and/or your children, drive as many cars as you want, and no hassle or sales pitches.
