View Full Version : S2000 - best looking Honda ever made

I don't understand how such a beautiful and tight looking car as the S2000 could have come out of the same styling studio as the one that spawned generations of bland Accords, Civics, and Acuras (save for the NSX), as well as plain-jane CRVs, Pilots and (according to a spy shot in the latest Car and Driver) full-size truck (A Chevy Avalanche type vehicle wrapped in yet more Honda blandness).
The S2000 is gorgeous. Great proportions. Razor-sharp details. A classic design in the making. All the typical Honda design themes brought to realization in a way that is far beyond all their other designs. Who in the Honda organization designed this little beauty and why couldn't they work this magic on Honda's other cars?
Just saw a comparo on c&d i think - of all rag tops. audi tt, z, s200, z4 and one other i think. Anyways, the s200 beat out the z for the top spot, which is really quite impressive considering it has been out for a quite a while. It sure is a nice car.

I would hope so, the 350z conv. looks like ass on wheels.

Preludes, Integras, and NSXs are by far the best Honda designs, although quite a few Accords and Legends looked great!

I think the S2000 looks too long and thin. They need to lower it and put some fender flares on it to call is "sporty".

I agree with your post 222max. It's also in the latest issues of Road & Track with the 350z as a shootout issue. S2000 won again and took 1st.

If the Honda sedan designs were too attractive, the sedans sales volume would not be as high. Hence the term 'mainstream'. More than less people who drive sedans do not want to stand out in them, good or bad, and avoid labeling. But, thats why Nissan appeals to me. I like sport, performance designs. Its not for everyone.

I like it only because it looks like a mutant Civic roadster. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I agree S2K is a great looking car, but it's only 1 of many beautiful Hondas. My list goes NSX, Legend Coupe, mk7 accord coupe, mk4 Prelude, Vigor, mk3 CRX, TSX, RSX, mk5 Prelude, 2k1 civic sedan, mk4 accord. In fact the only bland hondas I can think of are the 99+ TL's, the new Accord sedan, first odessey, and the SUV's.

i think they have worked that 'magic' on other honda cars, the s2000 really doesn't have attention getting style, it is what it is like all other honda cars. the reason i think people appreciate it more is because of the performance.
the nsx is the one that sits alone in style imo.

I think the Integra has a very awesome, unique and distinct design. Its popularity obviously refects its success. People often don't hand over the credit because so many are on the road (but none are quite like it). Front styling is like no other.
Although the S2000 has a great design, NSX takes the cake in my book.

S2000 is picking up in sales as they are getting more popular. I like it alot, only problem is its a Honda. Here in SoCali, sells so freaking well that you no longer have the exclusivity feel. I still get a kick driving around in my 98 240SX SE, because you rarely see one.
Depends on your taste, but Honda did make some good cars, and the S2k is an awesome choice. Jus don't ask for a coupe form.

Honda is the #1 Japanese nameplate in Detroit, with TOYOTA coming on strong recently (SUVs). Integras not quite so common, but they're certainly around. 240SX 'uncommon' in SoCal? Awwwww you poor thing.

S13 and S14 are here and there...jus try finding an S14a around esp the 98s as only about 10-13k were made.

NSX is a great looker alright. BUT it's looks are getting long in the tooth and it screams Italian Exotic wannabe too loudly. S2000 is clearly a Honda but it's all the Honda genetic traits done right. Unlike NSX, which relies on wings and slats and a low-slung stance too get its looks, the S2000 is clean, taut, and muscular. IMHO nothing else Honda has done is so clearly essential Honda AND looks as sharp.

I'd disagree with that. Like you said, the NSX is getting old. But take a look at the Gen3 Accord or the Gen2 Prelude, and you'll quickly see the same wedge shape, the same angular lines, many of the same styling cues, and even the flip headlights. And before you accuse Honda of milking styling cues from the NSX, but the Gen3 Accord and Gen2 Prelude came out before the NSX.

Not quite sure what point you're making. I'm not talking anything about recycling styling on Honda's part. What I'm saying is that S2000 is the best embodiment of the classic Honda styling themes. Yes, even better than NSX which is the most unHonda-Honda out there. It looks good. But I think S2000 is a more successful design overall.

Okay kids! I'm getting angry here. You'd best stop saying things about the NSX before someone gets hurt and/or buys a Vette!!! http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Calm down M. Nobodie's dissing the NSX. It's a killer ride. I just think the S2000 is even more killer... and at a price mere mortals can afford.

You called NSX a Italian exotic wannabe. Stylistically, the NSX was also a derivative of Honda design at the time.

I like the S2000, not just because it's the best looking Honda, I could give more credit as a package deal.
But I like it probably more for the heritage of the S lineup.
I wouldn't buy one, but if I had one I'd flog it on the track push it to the limits. Somewhat of a waste to just cruise in it or just show it off...

I don't care if it is a Honda, this classic looks badass. Great weekend car, say in Florida or California.
