According to Motor Trend's 2004 buyers' guide, the Honda S2000 gets a new 2.2L engine for '04. Although it makes the same 240 horsepower, max power is achieved at 7700 rpm instead of 8300 rpm. Its torque band has been also improved to make 163 lb-ft at 6500 rpm rather than 153 lb-ft at 7500 rpm. The S2000 also gets a revised suspension, 17 inch wheels, and revised front and rear fachias and bumpers. The name will remain S2000, not S2200.

i think that means ...
see yah later 350Z http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/frown.gif http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/tear.gif
as far as the performance numbers go that is

Well if you look at the racing VQ's the production VQ probably has a lot of headroom in NA form to play with if Nissan wants to up the power. I wouldn't be surprised if Nissan would bump hp in the- 350z, considering all the new upcoming coupes and sports cars.

i don't see how that would move it further away from the z, the handling is supposed to be softer because of owner complaints about the harsh ride and 163lbft, 10 ftlbs at the sacrifice of a lower redline, which i think is a key part of the car-sets it apart from the competition, is horrible.

who said lower redline
power is reacher lower

thats how they're getting the torque, increased displacement, lower the redline. what they did with the si, killed it trying to please the masses instead of sticking with the enthusiasts.

I wouldn't say that new S2000 is "killed". I am sure that the redline will be lower, but not significantly, no less than 8000RPMs. I would say 8200 or maybe even 8500, which is still VERY impressive.

Maybe it's got a fatter and flatter torque curve.

Agreed.

I also don't understand why Honda went with a torquier engine in the Si. With no power gain and less revs, they destroyed the major advantage of the old Si: the guilty pleasure of revving the engine up to heights that would kill other engines. Even though the 'torque-to-weight' ratio was improved, the power remained unchanged, and overall performance declined! What kind of 'update' is that?

The current S2000 shares the same design philosophy as the old Si: make the driver feel special everytime he/she runs the engine up to redline. After watching Montoya and Schumacher battle it out on the track, you can hop in your S2000--with it's small and fast/high-revving engine--and feel like you're there. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I hope this S2000 update doesn't destroy the character (not to mention the on-track performance) of the S2000. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Does it have i-VTEC?
I heard that kills a lot of the fun.

Never seen an S2000 dyno chart eh? Flattest torque curve ever, short of an electric motor.

Thanks.
Sounds like the new S2000 curve got pushed back a bit.
If the area under the curve less than the current S2000, then it might not be better, or even equal.
Lopping off a couple thousand rpms takes a lot of area out.

It could be 163 ft lbs across the whole rev range now, meaning it will pull harder at each point (given the same transmission ratios).

heh, looks more like the backyard microsoft excel chart.

Umm, it's just about identical to yours, except the one I posted is stock.

Hence area is regain, and maybe fatter.

its all in the scale. theres no doubt it will have more power across the band, but at what expense? you could put an intake on, get 10ftlbs more across the band and still have a high redline.

First, you won't get 10 ft-lbs from an intake on an S2000. Second, I doubt that it will stick around at 240hp (whether that's still listed as the power is another story).

I'm all for the torque increasing PLUS it coming 1K RPM lower. That's just what it needs. Now consistent 13's stock most likely.
