Well, I haven't seen any posts on this yet so here goes. The rumors about the M5 having a V-10 have been proven true. A test mule was spotted with its hood open. The airbox clearly said V-10 on it, and there's a shot of the gauge cluster: apparently the V-10 will redline just below 8500RPM. Its in the new BMW & Driver.

Yes, I know we all knew this would happen, but its still nice to see your dreams actually come to life.

Deamn! 8500K redline! I heard it before, but just couldn't believe! This motor is like an exotic car's motor.

My GM friend recently told me that the CTS-V did Nurburgring in 8 minutes. I couldnt get the exact time, but thats still damn fast. He said it beat the M5's time but didnt squeal by how much.

I said that's good, because the CTS-V is aimed at the next-gen M3. Thankfully he confirmed that it is meant to compete with the M3. I was scared we had another S4 on our hands (the new S4 was designed to compete with the M3, but they're always a step behind as the new M3 will have the 400hp V8).
I've got a hunch that if things go well over at the general, they will try to get the seville to compete with the M5, and that they'll shove the 500hp next-gen LS-6 into it. Just a hunch though.

How does everyone else feel about the CTS being meant to compete with the 3er? I know it doesnt seem logical but thats its purpose. When you see the CTS do you think "3er competition?" If you think stupid domestic crap then dont bother responding.

CTS is a 3 series fighter, and CTS-V is M3 fighter. It makes perfect sense to me. Its a decent deal, and it'll have six speed next year with that 255hp V6.

I would rather have a CTS-V than a E46 M3. Now if the next M3 has a V8, I would go either way.

You obviously haven't driven an E46 M3. It is one of the most rewarding sportscars I have ever driven. Easily much better than a C5 corvette. The last C5 I was in the dash was nearly falling in my lap, the whole car creaked, and it was a '99. Most GM products are of very similar build quality, even SAAB's are pretty crappy inside these days though most Cadillacs I've been in including the CTS are better.

If just a V8 would sell you on on the next M3 then you just don't get it. Inline 6 cylinder engines have a crank throw for each cylinder, thereby making them stronger engines. Inline 6 engines are inherently balanced, only a V12 or greater runs more smoothly. Rumor has it a new BMW I6 is in the works, so I wouldn't be surprised to see something like a 3.5-3.8 liter I6 in the E90 M3. I guess you won't be buying one though.

Ive had the C5 and the E46 M3 back to back, I dont even think they are comparable.

I wonder how much more the new M5 is going to run (MSRP)? The last M5 started at 63ish, it looks like this thing would be like 80k.

The E46 doesn't handle as well as the E36. The 36 was much more balanced. One of the main factors is the wider rear tires. Yes I see their purpose, but its not as easy to break loose the 46 as it is in the 36.

The vette you were in must have been owned by a retard. I've seen jdm tyte yo's fall apart just as much as I have seen domestics. The similar problem was the stupid woman owner.

For the other guy: The next M3 will have a 400bhp V8.

Sorry to dredge this up from the dead but,

Was there a little light in the cluster that said 'check engine' ?

The E36 had 245cm rear tires and 240hp (nearly 1:1) The E46 has 255cm rears and 333hp, hrmmmmm. In the E36 you had to really bust your ass just to get the car sideways in 2nd gear in the dry. E46: flick the car into a turn, add a dash of right foot and you too will look like Tiff Needell in a glorious powerslide.

The E46 has marginally better weight distribution and yet is a heavier car, but not by much. Especially not the bare-bones model I used to toss around regularly.

As for the interior quality of the Corvette, there is really no disputing the FACT that american cars of 1980-2000 vintage can't hold a candle to the interior quality of anything Japanese 90's much less ANY German car shy of maybe an Opel. plus, GM has consistently had the worst interiors of the big three.
