You know, I'm sitting here with my latest top gear mag, andd there's an advertisement for the ford mondeo. Its a nice 2-page pic of the interior. I can't help but ask why dont the north american fords have such nice interiors? They'd do so much better if they used this one instead of the bland dark with lime-green lighting. Sorry, no pics.

The Mondeo has been rated the nicest midsize car in Europe (or something like that) for years. It's so much nicer than anything Ford puts out here...I just don't get it. Great interior, great exterior, and an awesome chassis.

Same thing with GM and opel and their other european cars. Very nice interiors... but here, we get the classic Delphi stereo boxes.

Jaguar X-type is a four wheel drive Mondeo variant.

Mercury may add a Mondeo based car to its line.

At one time it was rumored that the Mondeo would be the next Sable.

As was stated above...a Mercury version of the Mondeo was rumored...long ago. It is not (and was never officially) in the plan at Ford.

Europe and Australia have some nice Fords. The Puma and Fiesta aren't one of those, but the larger sedans are decent relative to the American models.

The previous generation Mondeo was sold here as the Contour and the Mystique, for those who didn't know. It was the basis for the FWD Mercury Cougar, and made a great BTCC touring car too.

The new Mondeo went upscale a bit, but all of Fords european models seem to have a nicer interior and build quality than US market.

Oh, and a bit off-topic, the old Mondeo had an AWD variant in Europe so a AWD Contour is possible, would be cool.

As previously stated, the old Mondeo was sold here in the states, and to me, it wasn't all that hot. With the current model, I heard that it wouldn't come here because its too closely sized to the Taurus and would compete with it for sales.

It's really that simple. The Futura won't be Mondeo-based, however; or if it will be, it will use a lot of Mazda 6 parts outside of the general platform itself.

Ummmmm... duh... money.... cost-cutting dude.
If Americans will buy Chevrolets and Pontiacs, Ford KNOWS the will buy Tauruses with "decent" (and not one iota better) interiors.
