I don't like it, but the double wing at the back should make ricers very happy. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

lol, looks like Group B rally cars are coming back!!! lol... @ the very modified body work, carbon splitters for cooling, fenders, etc...

Ugly it may be, but that wing location is very functional.

I dont know why the extra features are bothering soem of you guys but they are there for a reason, most likely it has a function when rally racing. Mitsu will most likely not sell the car the way you see it for the general public ie: no wing, scoop, widebody etc.....so picture the car without all them enhancements and you can ikagine how good it will look. My $.02

Ummm, then it'll look just like the regular Evo 8, which is still fugly. I think it looks better in these picks, which isn't saying much http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

WRC is not like your local SoCal Ricer joint. Everything is there for a purpose. Form follows function. The wing is there to help the car win races, not to gain style points with a bunch of poor snot nosed teenagers.

I'm aware of the fact that it's all functional, I just still can't figure out the point of the roof scoop. I always thought they were for air intake or cooling purposes on rear/mid-engined cars. Here it just looks like it adds wind resistance http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Edit: Did some more research. Was not aware that they vented into the car and not to the engine. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/blush.gif Will leave my noob-ness up as an example to others http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/frown.gif http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Its a race car, personally its fine. I'd like to see the wind tunnel on that Lancer. I think the roof scoop's function is for keeping the cabin cool, as they probably tossedout the a/c.

I wonder what purpose this car will actually have, as Mitsu has said in the past that it will no longer be running the Lancer Evo in WRC, instead the smaller Colt Evo.

It's either for air to get into the cabin or to cool the rear brakes.

The rear spoiler is designed to produce downforce, in this car it's set more toward the center of the car to improve downforce where it's needed and improve handling. Their logic makes sense, just not pretty to look at.

Since it's very ugly don't expect it in any production model.

It's a camera. It's desinged to give WRC viewers on TV a more enjoyable experience. No function for the car just part of the regulations.

Scoops on WRC cars used to suck air into the passenger cabin to keep the driver cool, some of the new WRC cars, like the Citroen Xsara, come with Air-con on rallies that are running in the desert or extremly hot temperatures. Most modern WRC cars come in well below the minimum weight requirement (1230kg) so they usually have the flexibility to add in an air-con when it's required.

Dr. No is right on with the spoiler: 1) Top wing is now going to be in the laminar flow coming off of the roof thereby increasing effectiveness 2) Lower surface is likely there to promote laminar flow at the rear of the car...literally sucking the air down the back window 3) High aspect ratios (as opposed to swept back) also increase efficiency of a 'wing' hence the very vertical look 4) Center of force is definitely moved forward helping to put the downforce where it needs to be.

As for the 'scoop'...My vote is still for air supply. Their cooling effect is quite good at speed and many of the teams are thoroughly against a new potential regulation requiring AC in all of the cars. Also, there are certainly more aerodynamic, and much smaller camera pods available. Unless they're recording with a late-eighties VHS handheld, I see no other reason for such a large pod. In addition, the separation of the pod from the roof implies that air flow over the roof and into the pod has been considered. This particular setup would yield MUCH less turbulence in the pod and the shape of the pod would slow the airflow down to useful speeds. No one likes taking a blast of air in the face at 100mph.

But, just my $0.02

Best Regards and here's to the 2004 season!!! Its gonna rock.

Actually, I too originally thought the scoop was to bring air into the passenger cabin as well. But upon closer examination I noticed that the "scoop" was actually detached and connected by a small shaft. Which would obviously be too constricted to bring large amounts of air into the cabin.

...But I could be wrong http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I also think 04' would be a good yearhttp://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif , but I don't think Mitsubishi stands a chance of winning (at least not next year).

---------------------------------

Take a look at the "scoop" area, you can see that it's raised somewhat, and would not effectively be able to bring air into the cabin.

Here's another image: You can tell the "scoop" is not completely attached

Also, I think it's standard regulation now that WRC cars come fitted with a camera atop the roof; here's the Scooby with the camera.
