This was supposed to be some promotional event for Italian fighter jets, too! I was listening to Jim Rome go off about this on his show today. I don't quite understand what type of statement they're attempting to make by saying their fighter jet can beat a race car. Great. Congratulations. Well, if the enemy ever comes to the boot of Europe by F1 racer, we know who's faster over longer distance . . .

True, I don't expect Luxembourg to be trembling over the possibility of being overrun by McClaren http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif but .... more people know about this fighter than ever did before.
It wasn't the fact that the fighter beat the car that matters, it's that you and me are reading it that matters.

Yeah, but am I supposed to be in (excuse the choice of words) in shock and awe because a fighter jet can outrun a car? Isn't that how it's supposed to work?

I can see this being in the next Bond film. DB7 outruns a MiG over 900 yards, ducks into a mountain tunnel and the plane blows up. James gets away safely http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/tongue.gif http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/rolleyes1.gif

This was on FOX a couple months ago with a Corvette and an F16.
Oddly enough the jets seem to be consistently faster than the cars, especially over the longer distances. Maybe they just haven't used the right car yet.

There was a lot less pressure [for Michael Schumacher] than when facing his arch-rival Juan Pablo Montoya.
