Nice elegant front end, but they try to make the rear similar to the Maybach, which is blah !! What do you think?
Can anyone of you read German ? (http://www.autobild.de/aktuell/neuheiten/artikel.php?artikel_id=5334#)

I don't know if I like the back of it, but the front sure looks very nice.

If MB is gonna try to make there cars look like Maybachs they might be killing some sales of the maybach, a modified S-class is quicker then a Maybach and seats more people, Some people might prefer an S-Class limo that resembles the Maybach alittle then the Maybach itself.
looks great but autobild usually chops photos of other cars to get their renderings. looks nice though

I doubt it. Maybach is a built-to-order limo for the uber-rich. This S will be luxurious but it probably won't come anywhere near the hotel-room luxury of the Maybach.
Mercedes will sell very small numbers of Maybachs at a high profit margin for each. More less-rich customers may be drawn to the S-class because it has some traits of the ultra expensive Maybach though.

Very bland. I'm surprised, considering how many really nice MB designs have come out lately. The sides remind me of the TSX - very plain with a single downward character line and the door handles directly above it.

"Die Neue S-Klasse, Das Auto für die Volk"
Translation: The S-Class, the car for the poor people who don't have a Maybach on order.

Did you guys hear my new Chrysler joke yet?
"What do the Germans @ DCX call Chrysler's products? 'Der Shizzle,' 'Die Shizzle,' oder 'Das Shizzle' ???"

I see it now! http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/blush.gif You pay the price premium for the "Toyota quality" but you don't actually get the quality, cuz you're paying extra but getting a Benz

The front end lights along with the fenders also remind me of the RX-8.

.... Maybach is a built-to-order limo for the uber-rich.
Not just Uber Rich - a Maybach owner will ride in the back - most S-Class owners still want to be behind the wheel - Maybach competes more with Rolls

Anything but bland. Look at those RX-8 inspired front fenders. And that strangely familar Nissan Teana inspired lower c-pillar as it flows into the Teana like tail-lights. It looks better that the current car. But...I think with the the 7 series's refresh this car will need to do more to bring about a presence all to its own like the seven. The seven and the Q45 and Maserati Quattroporte scream exclusivity. This car (the new S-class) can get lost which is not neccessaraily bad. It works for Toyota.

Not entirely true, I've seen a Maybach 62 where the guy who owns it only sits in the front passenger seat. It's not the driver seat but the guy is old and has his own driver.

Not entirely true, ....
It is never *always* true - I mean Subaru actually sells SOME Forresters to other demographics that are not middle aged lesbians ,,, SOME ........
In general though the design was for chauffering ....
