A QX56 full-size, luxury sport utility vehicle rolled off an assembly line in Canton, Mississippi, on Tuesday night, becoming the Infiniti brand's first US-built product. The QX56 is the fourth vehicle to go into production at Nissan North America's newest assembly plant in just eight months.

Employees from plants that have built previous Infiniti vehicles have worked in Canton preparing for the QX56 launch, and Infiniti-specific equipment on the assembly line and special steps in the manufacturing process help ensure the highest possible fit and finish.

Every QX56 receives a double application of clearcoat paint, and after final assembly, vehicles are sent to a dedicated facility where they are inspected by specially trained, Infiniti-specific technicians.

Finally, each QX56 is driven on a 15-mile course to determine if any adjustments are needed before shipment to the dealer.

Oh no! What about all the people who demand less than 10 miles on their cars at delivery http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

And just exactly where is this 15-mile course http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/confused.gif I seriously doubt this claim.....

So why do you doubt this? http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/confused.gif

dfw ... Danny ... is one of the biggest Infiniti dealers around and has been a solid member of FA. He regularily passes along great ... accurate ... info and answers questions with complete honesty.

So what's to doubt about Infiniti doing a 15-mile pre-shipping QC check? Other automakers do the same for their high-end vehicles.

Quite. I remember taking Ford Mondeos around the test track at the Factory in Genk. It's standard practice to put some extra miles on each car off a brand new production line.

P.S. I know car dealers have a poor reputation but some of you around here have real trust issues!

First, I'm not questioning Danny, he did not write the article (http://www.just-auto.com/news_detail.asp?art=43304) . Second, the Nissan plant in Smyrna sits on 10 square miles, and I think the one in Canton is a little bigger. You tell me where they're gonna put a 15 mile long test track?

It doesn't say that they are building a private 15 mile test course! They have likely mapped out a 15 mile drive around the local roads in Canton. I am not a big fan of them, but, Mississippi does have roads!

It's not legal, though it is done, and I don't see them test driving everyone of them. I see factory fresh cars quite a bit 'round here driving down I-840, but it's only done in instances when they have a known problem and are trying to figure it out. Quick story: Saturn had some engineers take a few cars out for a "test", collided head on with someone, leaving the engineer and the other driver seriously injured. The other driver sued, won, and is fat and happy while Saturn now has an even closer eye watching what they do. I don't think Nissan wants to chance it 15,000 times on public roads, for 15 miles at a time. Just a thought. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

WOW, you mean to tell me you don't think they will use other roads, look at that picture, there are so many dirt roads and highways near by you can whip up 15 miles of driving easily, what you thought they were going to make a 15 mile oval?

^1.Please reference my post above yours^ http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
^2.I'm sure a dirt road would be great to test drive a $50,000 Infiniti on. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/rolleyes1.gif

man that highway is soo busy down there in misissippi, it would be difficult to take a car over some preset courses for 20 minutes, i they say they are going to test them they will, it is called quality control, infiniti can't risk what nissan risks since they built their cars so damn quick

/\ if you have read reviews about the qx you will notice that it has been tested in hawaii on mountain trails and desert paths in the west, plus, you dont think theres a road course somewhere there, what if they want to go in circles, hell a offroad course would make sure there are no squeaks

and yes we are all over thinking this, the point is nissan want high quality here and they are not risking anything

I think you misunderstood my remark about driving it on a dirt road, so I'll rephrase it: I don't think they would take a brand-spanking new, factory fresh, ready to ship to the dealer, $50,000 Infiniti blvd. cruiser on some dirt back road just to test. And yes, we are overdebating this, but I'm sticking to my guns. My opinions in my previous posts stand until proven otherwise. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I would like to see them drive each car 500 miles before it's shipped so the brake rotor/pads could be bedded properly and the engine/tranny partially broken in correctly. Tires re balanced and radial force minmized, all fluids changed again and a complete battery of tests......then shipped with a Gold Star attached.

Owners should have to pay for this special service = $500

Owner abuse in the 1st 500 miles causes more premature wear.
