The reason I bring this up is because Saab is coming out with a rebadged Subaru and in several Asian countries the Subaru Forester is badged as a Chevy. We've talked about Buick being the next brand GM killing off after Oldsmobile but could Subaru be the one that is killed? It sure seems like it.
I one hundred percent disagree with you. Subaru is just getting started with the new outback and legacy coming out.

Yeah, that's right, automobile companies do their DARNDEST to try and kill off their own divisions and subsidiaries, because, you know, it's a wise business idea. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/rolleyes1.gif

its actually not that horrible of a business model
buy up your competition, absorb the assets, and end production of its cars
so far GM does not have a controling stake in subaru, so subaru is still subaru....but its probably only a matter of time until GM, while probalby wont kill subaru, will suck out its soul

Perhaps loss of identity is a better term. GM is slowly melding all of the different models from their different divisions and building almagams (there's already a planned Saab that's based off of the WRX with some different sheet metal). So in a sense, it is the death of Subie's (and Saab's) identity rather than the company itself.
On the otherhand, you have the Ford-Volvo-Mazda relationship which mirrors the GM-Saab-Subie relationship (American-Swedish-Japanese), but seems to be faring much better. My hypothesis is that this is because Ford has respected the identities of Volvo (safety) and Mazda (zoom-zoom) rather than milking them and giving them hand-me-downs.
