To be specific, it requires about 30-35%...speaking from personal experience on more than one vehicle...

Last I heard, he blew his turbo or threw a bearing or something?

So here's the update, yes, engine encountered bearing damage, which lead to loss of oil pressure, which lead to blown turbo, in turn encountering massive engine damge...crank was toast, etc.

So, I started over in Mid-March and have spent the past three months gathering the parts for a brand new engine build.

Everything is here, and Able Racing in Midwest City, OK started the machine work last week.

Look for the car to be bigger and better, and I look forward to seeing its progress.

It will be back up for sale when we complete it, but I'm in no rush to sell it at this time.

I want to start out by thanking the guys at Abel Racing in Midwest City, OK (Specifically Erwin, who goes by Efeezi on the various online forums.) You guys have been a pleasure to work with, and your knowledge of all things Nissan is amazing.

It's been six months since the 240SX encountered bearing damage, which led to a full motor rebuild.

This downtime gave me the opportunity to rethink the current engine configuration, etc. While I was happy with the power of the Borg Warner 74mm (1.10 A/R) turbo with 9" cover, the spool characteristics weren't ideal for a street car IMO, and I wanted something that could make similar power, while providing a larger powerband.

After consulting Borg Warner, they recommended their 72mm (.90 A/R) ETT Turbo with their new 10" Race Cover, which has been dyno proven to make up to 60whp over their standard 9" cover.

The motor was rebuilt with an N1 Crank, JE Pistons, and Eagle Rods. Head was left untouched from the previous setup, complete with Tomei Hardware and 260/260 Poncams.

The car now sports the new Tial 50mm Q BOV, which sounds amazing, to go along with the Tial 60mm wastegate, and I'll have some dyno videos to post this weekend, pending all goes as planned.

Here's some sneak peaks from what's to come. Forgive the dust, it's been tucked away in the corner of the shop for several months awaiting parts.

The car was completed today, and I’m very pleased with the finished product. The plan is to dyno tune the car tomorrow, and I’ll upload the graphs as soon as we finish. The car sounds beastly in person, I wish you all could see it in person.

Special thanks again to corporate sponsors: BF Goodrich Tires, Tial Motorsports, Borg Warner, Abel Racing, Je Pistons, Eagle Rods, Tomei USA, and many others along the way for your help with the vehicle.

Update:

Had the car shot yesterday by two automotive photographers here in Oklahoma City. I’ll let you be the judge of the new setup; these really do the car justice. Hope you enjoy!

Riggs, I understand that you were running Calico main and rod bearings prior to the turbo/crank blowing earlier this year. Do you think the Calicos are worth it? They are a lot less expensive than JDM alternatives (Nismo, Tomei, Power Enterprise, etc.). I'm in the process of rebuilding my RB26 and was looking at the ACLs as an option, but I'm also trying to avoid bearing failure that could damage my motor (and put a serious hole in the wallet as well). I just bought a new R34 N1 crank and will be installing it into my R32 block. Any advice the best bearings for a rebuild? Thanks...

You'll find plenty of JDM fanboys, but the Calico's will do the job just fine.

I'm not big on the spacing of the rear rims, but who am I to criticize because that the car is beautiful! The attention to detail is fantastic. Very sweet ride.

needs to be 1.5" lower, front wheels need 1" spacer, rear wheels need to come in 1/2", front needs to be changed to stock late model s14, interior should be solid black, wheels are weak, but other than that its hot.
the motor setup is crazy and the paint quality is great.
why the rush to sell now?

You've got to be kidding. Why don't you build one the way you like it and let him enjoy his?

Took the car back to the dyno tonight with new dual Denso intank pumps, and decided to up the boost to 28 PSI on E85.

Car made 810whp, and there is still more left in the setup when I decide to grow some balls, haha.

I think driving a car with 810hp you must already have some balls. Good work, I bet it nuts to drive.

I can take some pics for you...It's definitely the way to go...I'll never put another Walbro fuel pump on anything I own. Have had NUMEROUS ones fail on me (and customer cars) on the street...

These denso's I figure are good for about 850whp on E85 through 1600cc injectors...Even at 810whp, I'm only at 60ish.. percent duty cycle on the injectors..very efficient.
