A few kills with my G35

I just recently signed up on here but I'll toss a few stories in here for your reading pleasure. I picked up my 2005 G35c 6MT in early April, so I've only had it a month and a half. The car ran a best of 14.0 @ 102.3mph at Cecil County in MD all stock. I have since added a JWT airbox with Ztube. The runs with the 240 were all stock, and only 2 days after I bought the car lol.

Here is the video of my pass at the track - http://www.reidonly.net/videos/reid-G35-14.05@102.3.wmv

    1) 2005 G35c 6MT vs 1997 SR20DET-swapped 240:

(This is a copy/paste from a local forum)

Broke the G35 in like it was an old habit tonight lol. Got a few runs in with ChefBRD in his SR20DET-powered S14 240. He previously ran 14.2 @ 97mph with an open diff.

First pull was in 2nd gear at around 40mph. I beep, 3rd beep I go but apparently he didn't hear the last one. So I jump out about a car and he seemed to be the same distance back the whole run. Afterwards, Chef did say that in 4th gear I actually started inching away from him a bit more.

The second pull was again in 2nd gear at around 40mph. I beep again, 3rd beep I hesitate for a second just to make sure he heard me, so HE gets the jump this time. Its basically the same scenario as the first pull, but with him up front this time. I think I may have been inching up on him again, but it was hard to tell.

I was shifting at 7000rpm and had the VCD off for both pulls. I was pretty happy with the results for the first run with it. Based on the times he ran in his car in warm weather, I would guesstimate I would probably trap roughly 100mph. (*note this was prior to me going to the track, which he then went 14.1 @ 101mph the same night I went 14.0 @ 102mph)

    2) 2005 G35c 6MT vs friend's 2005 G35c 6MT:

My car: all stock aside from JWT airbox with Ztube
Friend's car: completely identical year and options etc, he has an Injen CAI, MREV2 lower plenum, and 5/16" plenum spacer

We were messing around on the highway a bit and we managed to get the opportunity to run from a dig. When the "tree" went green, we both launched almost identical and were side by side through 1st gear. Both hit 2nd gear and were still side by side. We then both shifted to 3rd gear and I think I was starting to inch away from him but we had to let off because of... uh... only 1/8 mile track... yeah thats it. :p

    3) 2005 G35c 6MT vs 2G Eclipse FWD:

On my way home I was cruising along on the highway when I saw a 2G Eclipse up ahead. I went ahead and dropped from 6th to 5th in case it was turbo and he wanted to play. I was still maintaining the same speed as before, slowly coming up on him when I heard him downshift right as I was almost to his bumper, so I knew he was game. I dropped to 3rd and came up next to him to see if it was anyone I knew, but it wasn't.

We slow down and do a pull from 2nd gear at 40-45mph. I beep 3 times and we are off. He gets about a 1/4 car jump on me but I instantly pull back even with him and then slowly start to pull past him. By the top of 4th gear I was about 1-1.5 cars ahead.

We slow down to talk and he asks if my car is stock lol, I say yeah the only mod is an intake. So he says lets go from 3rd gear at 60mph. Same thing, puts me in a great spot at about 4500rpm. I beep 3 times and he spools and pulls good initially, but I once again pull even rather quickly and end up just shy of 1 car ahead of him. I tried to ask what he had done, all he said was stock turbo still. Cool guy though, I gave him a thumbs up and went on my way.

Cecil County Dragway in Rising Sun, MD. I forget what the exact temps were, but it was a pretty cool night... like in the 50's. Cecil is a great track, only 320ft or so above sea level. Great place to get good times.

Here is the full run down of my slips from that night. The car was very consistent for me.

you know we have a lot of folks in the MD , DE, VA area. you should keep an eye on the regional forums and maybe come to a meet or so.

I went to run my car at cecil after I first got TT'd but it started to rain like 5 mintues before I got there. Second time I went to run it they had some funny car night or something and I didn't know it. This is when they had I-95 all tore up and I decided not to try again. Havn't been up that way in a while and just might make a night of it.

    Good pass Reidonly.

    Good story, thanks for sharing.

the thing i don't like about cecil is that sometimes they will make the people wait on the local bracket racing guys, esp on wednesdays' gamblers series, i'm like, wtf did i come here to wait in the pits while some guy who shouldn't be on a test and tune night gets 3 passes to my .5 pass....
    Thanks!

Those times listed were on a Wednesday. I also went the next 2 Wednesdays in a row and I got plenty of passes in. The first night I got 5 passes, the next week like 5 or 6, and the 3rd week I got 7 passes in. *shrugs*

Nice runs. Are you planning more power increases?
