Mike D is our newest Featured Member!

Please join us in congratulating Mike D, who has been named our latest Fresh Alloy Featured Member!

    Good job, Mike!

    The writeup:
This day Freshalloy would like to recognize member MikeD as it's newest Featured Member. Mike joined FA at the beginning of 2003. As a long standing member and great contributor to the site we hope that all of you would take a moment to issue some congratulations.

Recently Mike went through a great ordeal with his G37 convertible. Despite his obvious frustration he walked us through his entire "lemon law" process. Hopefully none of us will have to go through this same process. In the end Infiniti stepped up to the plate, as we might expect.

    Here's a picture of Mike's 2009 G37 convertible:

    BlueVert1.jpg

--Mike had a few things to say too:--

I have to say I was quite surprised when Mike contacted me to tell me I had been selected for the Featured Member thread !! So many of you guys have done such great mods and gone so many places with your cars !

As brief history – I have been a car nut since grade school, probably because my Father was a car guy too. Raising a family, keeping a roof over our heads etc. never allowed him the opportunity to have the sort of cars he would have really liked, but his enthusiasm never waned and the Detroit Auto Show was a must-do ritual for dad & us boys as we got older.

Before I get to my Nissan/Infiniti cars I thought I’d share some of the many cars I have owned over the years that have stood out (good or bad).

My 1st love (didn’t actually own this as I was nay but a tad at the time) was the ’63 Chrysler Turbine car. For those of you who have never seen or heard of it here is a link with some info:

    Turbine Car Site

I got in trouble repeatedly for being late to school as someone in our area (a Chrysler Exec no doubt) drove one of these to work and would pass by an intersection a few blocks from school daily for a few months. I would stand & wait for the car hoping especially for it to catch the light giving me a chance for a longer look + hearing the cool winding down & then spooling up of the turbine !!

--Now we're not saying Mikes old or has owned a lot of cars but here is the short list that brings us toward this generation:--

’63 Ford Fairlane 500 w/200 cid inline 6 – what a dog this car was, barely made 65 mph with pedal matted, had no carpet, cardboard door panels, no a/c or radio, vinyl bench seat – LOL.

’73 Pontiac Grand AM w/400cid V8 – loved this car, was a blast to drive. Too bad Mich road salt totally ate the body!

’76 Pontiac Formula Sunbird w/231 cid V6 – what a **** this car was. Started rusting BEFORE it’s 1st winter, I swear it came rusty from the factory!

’78 Ford Thunderbird Town Landau w/351 4bbl Windsor V8 – loved this car too! Bought it used after it had been in a bad accident & poorly repaired. Fixed her up, drove it for 5 years & sold it to a friend who took her to Boston for 2 years, then Cali for another 3 before she died ! #3 on the list of cars I wish I could have kept.

’87 Lincoln Mark VII LSC w/302 cid V8 & ’94 Mark VIII – these were both great cars, especially the LSC (got tons of comments on that car everywhere I went) ! The decision to lease the VIII was the gateway event to my 1st Infiniti ! The LSC is #2 on the list of cars I wish I could have kept.

--More recently Mike has owned one awesome ride after another. Here is his second Infiniti Q45:--
    2002 Q45.jpg

    --Thoughts Mike?:--

Next up was the ’02 Q45s (traded the old Q + the Z on this deal). Have to say this was not one of my better choices in life. I almost immediately regretted trading the old Q, which as fate would have it, got sold to a guy in our subdivision so I would see her on a regular basis – continually rubbing my nose in it – sigh. Never really got smitten by the ’02. I quickly tired of the color (Desert Platinum), and rear end started to look droopy to me + the tail lights reminded me of a Grand Marquise – in short, I felt like I was driving my dad’s car. Kept the ’02 for 5 years, but only logged 15K on the ODO. When I found myself driving the POS Dakota work truck more than the Q, it was time for a change. On a positive note, I found & joined FA after buying this car – finally something I have not grown tired of !!

--So what did you get after this one Mike?:--

    2003 G35.jpg

The year after the Q decision, I made a another great buy – the ’03 G35. Was suppose to be the wife’s car, but I found myself looking for excuses to drive it instead of the Q (nuts, I know) more & more. She fell in love with it as well and she usually doesn’t care all that much about cars! Still have this gem in the stables and will keep her going till the wheels fall off. It continues to be my daily driver & go-to car even tho the ‘09’s both have tons of toys, more power etc.

--So you mentioned a couple of '09's Mike. What else do you drive now besides the Vert?:--

    2009 M45.jpg

The M is a great car as well, love the laser guided cruise control and the ride/handling of the sport model. Wish I had more time for it, but for the near term it’s likely to remain a garage queen.

--Mike, we're beginning to think Blue is your favorite color?

Anyway, beside these rides Mike has owned more than a vehicle or two. His first Nissan was an '87 ZX Turbo. Along with an early 90's Accord, Mike also owned a '95 240SX turbo and a '95Q45T.

After dumping a Dakota Mike also enjoyed driving this '07 Titan with some V8 juice (We'll bet it's Blue):--

    2007 Titan.jpg

--Mike had many other comments on his vehicle and his enjoyment of the Freshalloy site. Again we would like to thank you for your long standing committment and particpation on FA.--

    Congrats Mike D!

I want your blue G and M.:D Will you trade for student loan IOUs? J/K.

Mike D has the BEST write-up I've seen for a featured member. He really takes you on a nice timeline of his automotive experiences. He also has the Nissan collection I dream of one day owning. Hmm, I should get back to studying for finals to make it happen!

LOL - we do have a blue theme going there don't we !!

It's my wife's favorite color, when she saw that blue on the G35, she just had to have it & then got as close to it was was possible on the Vert.

The Titan was more of a green color (to my eyes), tho they called it Deepwater Blue and it just called to me :D

Almost ended up with the new M being blue as well (was looking at a car Kenny was selling) but decided I wanted the graphite interior (his car had the bone) + it was time to get something other than blue

Take a Gremlin. Add a bit of duct tape and a Lincoln grill. What do you come up with?

    Answer. Something McrewsQ drove.

Don't knock the Gremlin, had a friend who's dad worked at AMC. He had a Gremlin with the V8 - what a blast that car was to drive ! Was great fun to toss it around in the snow.

Insert any car where I put Gremlin then. I was not trying to offend a car by any means.

Seats & trim were a medium grey color, as I recall they called it Dove Grey.
    Carpet was a dark grey.

Ironically, someone who lives about a mile from me is still using one of these as their daily driver It is the same color combo & an LSC version, same as my old car. I see it parked in their driveway 2 or 3 times a week and sometimes around town. They have kept it in very nice condition.
