Chevrolet SS..... V8 rear wheel drive!!

GOtta read this! Comes stock w/ 40 & 35 profile tires....that's crazy!!! That GXP spec is now the only way you can get an SS -- with a 415-hp, 415-lb-ft LS3 V-8 bolted to a paddle-shifted 6L80 automatic (sorry, no more row-your-own option), four-piston Brembo front brakes, performance shocks, and rack-mounted electric power steering. Thereís no engineering reason the SS should be any slower than our GXP automatic -- itís lighter, and has the same power, torque, and gearing. So why did it take me 4.9 seconds to hit 60 mph and 13.3 seconds to cross the quarter, when the Pontiac managed 4.5 and 13-flat? The SS was only available in Michigan during 40-degree weather.

what is a little crazy is the price $45k.....you can get into some nice used luxury cars that are only 2-4 yrs old (and fast) for that kind of money

With so much content i doubt they could ahve made it cheaper.

Also conversely look at how much an imported Sedan with that kind of size and powertrain would be.
The cheapest would be the M56 , which of course I would much prefer but even that is 60k is it no?

Yeah but Mark is right, for that 45k you can get into a young, used M56 (or E550 or 550i, etc) and get similar performance with more luxury and way more prestige. And (hopefully) better dealer service too.

But I really like the SS. It's so good to see Chevy sedans that don't suck.

You cant compare a new car price with used prices.

Its tempting but you have to compare apples to apples.

And when you compare a 2 or 3 year old then compare a G8 w/ the 6.0L to the equivalent used MB for same price.
And then the comparison will be very different

actually, Fred, that's what happens in the real world all the time. That's how kia got in to the market place in the us. offering new cars at used car prices. tha'st the attraction of the 'certified' used car that the luxury brands offer. the reality is ....if I have $30-40k to spend, I'm going to look at EVERYTHING in that range....not just only new. My girlfriend had an immaculate 2002 Pathfinder. looked at the new 2014 pathfinder. ended up buying a 2010 Lexus RX350 w. 30k miles for a little less.

This is why part of me is glad that I don't have the money now. Searching for a newer car is impossibly complicated now. You have more cars in every price range than ever, reliable Germans, unreliable Japanese, American cars that are competitive, dozens of hybrids, EVs, diesels making a comeback- all sorts of things that didn't exist when I last bought. lol.

That new Impala is the first Chevy in decades that actually looks good to me. I've not driven one, or even sat in one, but I have to say GM did a good job on the styling.

Bin Laden is dead and GM is alive with $40K Chevrolet SS that won't sell.

But seriously, they did a fine job on the new Impala. The SS looks like a Malibu. Yuck.
