Thread: Lexuses are reliable and low-cost, right?

Lexuses are reliable and low-cost, right?

    Whoops! There goes that myth.

Among other things, it needed a $12,000 replacement of control arms and associated bearings, and a $2850 replacement of both rear shock absorbers. We were also quoted $300+ for a car battery and $24 for a key fob battery.
Mind you, our mileage is currently 120,000km and the car is only 7.5 years old.
    S-class for me, please.

There's just a possibility the guy got ripped off a little. That's not an easy job, but his first quote was ridiculous. Even the $7,000 sounds suspect.

But Lexus service isn't a cheap prospect, nor is Mercedes! (Just read about a guy who was charged $300 by M-B to turn off his warning light after he replaced a bad bulb!)

I strongly recommend anyone with a high-end vehicle never let it get out of warranty. Keep 'em a couple years, then turn 'em. If you lease, it's really not that expensive a proposition in the long run.
If someone blows up a school with a bomb they go after the bomber ... if someone shoots up a school they go after the gun.

A privilege is just a right that has been taken away by government.

Political correctness is cowardice wrapped in a lie.

I am trying to stay away form high end vehicles these days unless they say "Infiniti" on them.

Mercedes service is just as expensive (moreso if you get a high-end AMG or V12 model), but you're getting a better car overall. Better performance and build quality. For about the same money? No brainer.

Cars such as these are not so bad out of warranty under the right conditions. Never take them to a dealer. Wrench yourself when possible, and take advantage of indy shops whenever you can. If you know an owner who will cut a deal for you, that's even better. I was just talking to a patient today who got his ABC done on a CL600 for about $2,500, which is like 1/4 what the average dealer would want to charge.

I've never thought of Lexus as being "low-cost" to service. Ditto MB, BMW, Audi etc. They are typically pretty reliable, but any car can have something crazy expensive fail or need replacement due to the owners driving habits, manufacturing defect etc.

Been toying with the idea of picking up a low mile used CLS63 AMG S & dumping my M45, but the potential ultra high cost of maintenance & repairs has me dragging my feet. Might be worth it tho just have the power & sounds that come out from under that hood & out the tail pipes

And yes, I'm apparently having a late mid-life crisis - LOL.
