    s14 ignition switch wiring problem

So i'm rebuilding my 95 240sx with a red top sr20 after years of it sitting sad and lonely in the yard.

I have completely removed the ignition lock around the steering column. This will not be a daily driver so i'm not worried about the key.

I have fab'd an aluminum center dash that will hold electronics and the switches for the ignition and the starter button. You can see pics at https://www.instagram.com/kaseyclyde_dot_com/

So my issue is that I have the ignition switch out (that looks like this http://carismastore.com/images/produ...js14switch.JPG) and i want to correctly wire the custom dash switches for "acc" and "on" positions. Or perhaps have one switch turn on "acc" and "on" at the same time. There is not a radio, or a/c, or... anything in the car really. I'll run the starter button directly to the starter.

If anyone has information on what the wires do (and which wires are really necessary) that come from the ignition switch I would like to cut the wires and run them to the dash switches.

I hope this was not too confusing. I've been google searching for a couple hours and my brain is fried.

    Thanks!

If I couldn't find a wiring diagram, I'd just do a trial and error. I don't think you can hurt anything - it'll either start or not, and then you can try the other wire if it doesn't. If you don't have anything on the accessory circuit, it shouldn't even have to be made hot.

Ok I think I will give that a go if you don't think it could fry anything. I'm still going to keep searching for a wiring schematic because I really would like to know which wires are 12v constant and which wire is ground for sure. If i can't find a diagram I don't think that should be too hard for me to deduce. Just trying to do everything right the first time. Thanks!

LOL. I can't be liable for any damage.

Are you switching over to pushbutton start? If so, there are a ton of articles online about that. Just do a Google search.

Looking at the picture of the switch, I see it has 6 wires (or positions) like most ignition switches:

    One for ACC
    One for Off
    One for Ign + Acc
    One for Ign + Start
    One for Battery input
    One for Ground

The only wild card is the wire color, and if you can establish that you're home free. There should be a diagram online somewhere, or if you have the original switch, the leads are usually marked the back of the switch body.

A little of my initial problem was the wires for the plug side and harness side are different colors. I assumed they were the same. My real problem now is deciphering this wiring schematic.
So here's what I've come up with so far. (and I'm sorry you have to pardon my ignorance on this)

    Pin 1 must be power.
Pin 2 is either ACC or ACC/ON
Pin 3 is ON or ON/Start
    Pin 4 Just ON
    Pin 5 Just Start?
    Pin 6 No Clue...

    What do you think?

I apologize, but this is way beyond my pay grade. I was assuming you were going with a bare-bones setup, with switches and a starter button.

Stick with me and you'll burn you car up.

lol, no worries mike, Thanks for the help.

I finally got around to reassembling the ignition switch. Why i pulled it apart in the first place is beyond me. I can just turn the switch with a screwdriver to activate the different key positions and test each connection with a volt meter to see whats getting power.

After I put the motor back in, hopefully this Saturday , I'll get the car running and test it with the working switch before I hack up the wiring to plum the switches.

It still aggravates me I can't figure out simple wiring diagram but I guess I'm no electrician.

Let us know how it works out. If it blows up, get one of your relatives to post your obituary here.

you should be able to take a multimeter ($5 or $8 at harbor freight tools) and turn the key one click at a time, testing each wire for its 12V signal. As you turn the key to each new position, the ignition switch sends 12V to an increasing number of wires that come off of it.
