Both Nissan and Infiniti individually post best sales month ever.

    Nissan...
    • It seems the Rogue is solidifying its place as the top seller outside of pickups at almost 40k. I am still boggled by this, and this DOES NOT include the Rogue Sport, which has yet to hit the market!
    • Could the Star Wars marketing connection been THAT beneficial and effective for the Rogue?
    • The Altima is still down, BUT where Nissan is winning is the fact that the Rogue is selling (significantly) more than the Altima this time last year YET the Altima is still selling more than the Rogue did this time last year. So their #1 and #2 sellers literally traded places, yet their overall sales have increased.
    • Pathfinder is holding its own, and actually outselling the Honda Pilot. Guess that extra HP is helping.
    • Titan finally cracked 5k... lets hope the incentives can help it stay there.
    • The market is taking very well to the new Armada it seems. I see them pretty often here in Houston, and the QX80 has not been phased AT ALL.
    • Now that Nissan/Infiniti has merged with Mitsubishi... they have now officially leapfrogged Honda... although it seems Nissan/Infiniti was on their way to doing it without Mitsubishi. With Mitsubishi, Sales were 180,598.

    INFINITI!
    • Surpassed Dec 2016s record... Dec 2017 should be interesting! Could we see Infiniti post a 20k month for the first time this year? I think so.
    • EVERY model sold over 1k for the month, including the Q70(which hasn't done so since March 2015)! Just an overall healthy month for Infiniti.
    • This little QX30 is proving to carry a punch. I really didn't expect this thing to sell so well, almost 3k... And it has muscled its way to the top of the class in sales already!
    • Seems spring is going to be good to the Q60, finally breaking the 1500 mark with over 1800 sales.
    • QX50 is STILL holding strong, posting its second best month, even with the QX30 on lots.
    • Q50 took a hit. I hope the refresh provides a boost to help it buck the downward trend of car sales.
    • QX60 was #1, though down itself... Seems to be having a hard time keeping pace with last year so far. I thought the HP boost would help here too.
    • The QX80... almost 2k. Wow. To say so many people call it ugly! The teaser of the all new QX80 looks PRETTY good!
    • Infiniti continues to dust Acura and Cadillac and has a chance at even overtaking Audi this year. They're only behind Audi by 2k units for the year and was only 500 behind for the month.

the one key item you miss is the release of the King Cab for the Titan. It hasn't hit the market yet and they managed to crack 5000. I suspect Titan will sell more then Tundra once the KC hits.

As optimistic as I am when it comes to Nissan... I don't think it will. I mean, I hope so. I can't say flop, but I don't think we can call the Titan a success. I think they had a good idea with the XD... but the competition is a fast moving target and just about all 1/2 ton pickups have surpassed the XD in capacities. Although I honestly think the XD is underrated and will be much more stable towing 12k+lbs than these 1/2tons with tow packages. But people go more off of what's on paper it seems. I think the Titan is an awesome truck, just in a tough market that is standing still for no one. If Nissan is not already planning upgrades to the Titan... they're behind.

Unfortunately, I agree with you. It seems the truck came out with just enough capability or just below against F/GM/D and only surpassed Tundra. That isn't enough for a conquest sale in the pickup truck market period. The XD, IMO, is an attempt to create a sales category that is just way to narrow. I'd love to see the research done that made Nissan think it was a good idea to not go full on HD. I can't believe there are enough people out there that need something just below HD and just above 1/2 ton for Nissan to attempt to invent a new sub-segment. From a pricing perspective, I would likely just buy the HD over an XD if for an extra $2k I get the base line capabilities of an HD which are already better then the XD. It's about perceived value and reputation in this very competitive market segment and the XD just doesn't provide enough to lure the loyalists away.

    Impressive results.

I'm not too surprised at the Maxima's soft sales ... it promised to be a killer, but ended up too big and too disjointed for its segment. Too bad, as it could have been a sales leader and a big lift for Nissan. Making it smaller and tighter (like a 4DSC should be) would have to wait for a complete redesign, and by then it will be dead. I've owned a couple of Maximas and loved them, and I hate to see it die. If they could make it maybe 10-12% smaller overall, give it a 7- or 8-speed automatic trans, and clean up the styling, it could be a big seller. But that ain't gonna happen.

The Rogue is a nice CUV, and it's good to see it's beginning to sell well.

The Titan doesn't fit in any one category, and it still has a dated look. Nissan obviously wanted to "one-up" the pickup community and move up a half-slot in payload capacity, but pickup buyers are a fiercely-loyal and opinionated bunch, and they just don't get the Titan. For whatever reason, the Japanese don't seem to be able to really compete in the full-size pickup market.
If someone blows up a school with a bomb they go after the bomber ... if someone shoots up a school they go after the gun.

A privilege is just a right that has been taken away by government.

Political correctness is cowardice wrapped in a lie.

I'm not sure why you're thinking the Maxima is not doing well... It had its best sales year last year since 2006. And last month was its best sales month since this gen went on sale and its best sales month since Nov. 2013... The only two cars in its segment that outsell it are the Impala and the Charger. It is a little behind last year, but no where near the hit the Impala and Charger are taking (Down 27.9% and 15.3% compared to to Maximas -3.9%). I believe the Maxima is performing just where Nissan expected it to. Its not meant to be a volume model and that was their intent when they moved it upmarket in 2003. So I don't think its going anywhere.

And we have to keep in mind that Nissan overall selling WAY MORE volume compared to when the Maxima was king. You got the Versa selling ~100k, Sentra selling ~200k, the Altima ~300k, so the Maximas ~60k is just icing on the cake. Yeah, it could be pushing 100k but the Maximas relation to the Altima keeps it's R&D down, so it is a higher profit model so Nissan seems to be okay with sub 100k sales.

As far as the Titan, they said they did research and found that about 100k buyers a year are looking for a kinda tweener truck, that want the extra capability but not the harsh ride. But it seems they didn't bank on the competition bumping their half tons right into the space the XD was supposed to occupy. The Titan XD should be towing about 14k not in order to truly fill the shoes they promised. But I believe they also priced the XD too high in comparison to true HD trucks. I think THAT was the biggest blow to the Titan XD.

But what I think Nissan REALLY needs to do is... BRING BACK THE X-TERRA!!!!! In this market it is a NO BRAINER!!! I think the only reason its sales slowed was because the UPDATES SLOWED!!! They let it languish without any significant updates for way too long. But I wonder what affect it would have on the Rogues sales?

    Bingo!!

They dont even have to do much of a redesign!
Just base it again on the Frontier, maybe update the looks a bit leave mechnicals the same and add that 2.8L Diesel they werre testing in the Frontier.
    sales will be brisk.

As for the Titan it seems sales are fine.
better than I htought given the deals I see.
My local dealer has a 2017 Titan SV for 12.5 k under MSRP, its only like 2.5k above a Frontier SV!
I dont need a big pick up... but at that price man am I tempted to trade one of my SUVs ...Brand new V8 4x4 with a 5/100k bumper to bumper!!!
"In the end we all just play the roles given us... Sometimes they dont fit so well,... but I guess we make do."
