Thread: Lightning DOES strike twice

  1. #21
2 Questions. Who do you pay this diminished value write up to? And, is not the diminished value to the Lessor?

I really don't think it fair that some accidents are routinely reported lowering the value of the vehicle automatically. There is little reference to severity, structural integrity, quality of repair, etc. I kind of assume every vehicle has an issue and it is my due diligence to find the noticeable ones.

In other words, to hell with the CarFax type databases.

I once tried to go for DV and it was looking good but then it turneed out the car had a previous accident and the DV had already occured elsewhere for someone else.
Didn't show up in Carfax when I bought it

The writeup I referred to is done by a specialist company that does the research and valuation, and provides a detailed report to the insurance company. They will also represent you with the insurance company if necessary. The one in Texas that's best known is Diminished Value of Texas, and they have a success rate of over 90%. And yes, the diminidhed value payment goes to the lessee, the leasing company.

That last part is annoying, since if you trade out of your lease, the leasing company has unduly profited by collectingon a car they no longer have any financial interest in.

I don't disagree with you on the previous damage thing. If a car is repaired right, it should be as good as new, but the preception persists that if it's been wrecked it's somehow not as good as it should be.

Minor need to correct your French. EE is the receiver. OR is the giver. The only one that is usually confusing is Mortgagee/Mortgagor. The Mortgagor is the property owner whom gives the mortgage to the bank.

But why would the bank request this appraisal? Do they insure every lease?

You are so right. I have to blame my misuse of the word "lessee" on my injuries.

The bank doesn't want or need the appraisal, it would be to present to the insurance company to establish the amount of the claim. Consider it an expert witness on my behalf.

Well, I'm starting over. Got the Optima out of the shop last week and traded it yesterday for a 2017 Optima SX-Limited. Same body style as the outgoing 2016 car, but they upped the game on the 2017's by adding LED headlights and chrome wheels.

I'm hoping to put this whole pair of rear-ender episodes out of my mind by getting a fresh start.

By the way, the lease on the new one includes more miles, a year newer model, and a shorter term for a $3 lower lease payment. I was afraid the car being wrecked twice was going to kill me on a new lease, but their Memorial Day promo rebates took care of it!

Yes, this part has ended well, but I'm not finished with Geico yet!
