2017 Nissan Rogue Sport Arrives In May From $22K

Like the idea of a Nissan Rogue, but wanting something smaller and easier on the pocketbook? Nissan is banking a starting price of $22,380 on it with the new 2017 Rogue Sport.

The Rogue Sport is the U.S. version of Nissanís globally marketed Qashqai. It will be the first time the five-passenger CUV will be sold in the States when it arrives on dealer lots May 11. Itís a bit less expensive than the standard Rogue that starts from around $24,000.

The smaller version of the standard Rogue comes in three trim levels: S, SV, and SL. Each comes standard front-wheel drive. However, you can add on all-wheel for $1,350. (Note: so far the Sport will not be offering a Hybrid or Midnight Edition options.)

The bonnet holds what Nissan dubs a Sport worthy 2.0-liter DOHC inline-4. Thatís a 0.5-liter difference to the Rogueís standard 2.5-liter. It also gets a drop in power from the big sibling, with a 141-horsepower rating. Round it all out with Nissanís Xtronic transmission with an eco mode.

The exterior looks quite familiar. Weíre talking an almost to tee mini-me of the Rogue. Just shrink that bad boy down more than a foot and make it slightly narrower. Throw in some stronger flares on the fenders. Then wrap those deeper cut lines around to the rear and down the sides with a strong below the beltline indention.

Behind the rear seats, there is room for 16 cabin carry-on suitcases. Fold the seats down to more than double that space. Comparing it to the full-size Rogue, it gives you about half as much storage behind the second-row seat. However, unlike the Rogue, the Rogue Sport doesnít offer a third-row option. Keep that in mind when youíre considering size. Behind the front row, with all seats folded down, the Sport only offers a suitcase and a half less than the standard Rogue.

The standard Rogue is Nissanís top-selling vehicle in the US.
