2018 Camry is sport, luxury, and everything else it could be

Just don't ask all the Camrys on the expressway to get out of your way.
    That ain't gonna happen.

Looks like a big step up for the Camry, at least in the styling department. It's a whole lot less granny-looking:

Last summer I had a rental Camry for a few weeks, it was a stripper 4 pot version.
Have to say I was not expecting much & figured it would be an absolute dog, especially on the hwy, but it was a very comfortable, quiet car and surprisingly zippy.

If I were in the market for that sort of vehicle, I'd give their V6 version a hard look !

Doubt anyone noticed, but the little black stripe extending down from the lower corner of the tail lights is exactly the same as on the new Kia Stinger. Wonder how that happened.

I don't know exactly but assume they could not afford screws to keep the bumper attached?

    Its a modern looking car.
I guess Toyota got the message.

lets see how it will do the typical Camry buyer...
"In the end we all just play the roles given us... Sometimes they dont fit so well,... but I guess we make do."

The none SE Camry's still look like the typical Camry to me just with a huge gaping maw in front. I feel like this is what the current gen Camry should have looked like instead of that initial cheap slab sided mess they allowed to reach the market.

While 1) I have your attention and 2) you think I have gone off the deep end...

... the 2018 Buick Regal Sportback is also looking good in photos (interior and exterior).

The exterior looks great the interior not so much after poking around in it. The back doors were hard cheap plastic and the front doors in the se I was in. The door didn't sound solid when closed and the padding on armrest is not good at all. The door handles themselves look like they belong in a Kia Rio from 2000.

I want to say that Honda does the same thing with the back doors being all hard plastic. Blatant cost cutting, but they probably bank on most people not even finding out until after they buy the car and probably just not caring. I can't speak for the current gen Altima, but the rear doors had soft touch material at the top of the door on my 07 Altima.

Like most cars in thsi class, you have to move up to the top trims to get the really nice experience. But with this particular car ringing in at only $34k, it's a bargain IMO.

I 100% agree. I am a huge fan of the new Camry, HUGE fan. This is absolutely the car that Nissan is now too cheap and cowardly to build with the Altima. 300 hp, good steering and handling, 8-speed automatic. They went the extra mile and finally put it on a new, up-to-date chassis. They ditched the 4-wheel MacPherson strut setup that the Camry has had for 20 years. The interior, while not perfect, is nowhere near the cost-cutting exercise it was and at least now is above average even with the hard plastic rear doors on L/LE and S/SE trims.

I've seen people on other brands' forums talk about this new Camry's dynamics. Many opionons that it drives like a Mazda6 are being posted. I have logged hundreds of miles on the 6 and if the Camry drives like that-- wow. That is a FWD car that drives like a RWD Infiniti. What a deal.

Everything about this sedan screams, "We care! We're really trying!" And when Toyota tries, they change the industry (see Lexus debut in 1989). Finally, a Camry that you want to buy for more than just great reliability (and they never messed that part up, *cough* Nissan/Honda).

It's find it weird that Toyota came out with 1st class technology and most versions get the same mpg as the altima but only 1mpg city better? I was looking for atleast 30 city 42hwy on all models with that new engine. It's still really good but all the altima needs is 1 mpg in the city 2 match the yota. The steering on the camry was pretty tight. It roasted it's front tires with the traction control off and making a turn while flooring it from a stop. The doors felt flimsy and the buttons felt comically big. I think it looked more visually appealing than it felt.

I think we're reaching a plateau with gas mileage. The mfr's have tried new engine tech, more gears, and smaller engines, and they've made a lot of headway. But unless some kind of new engine comes along, I don't think we'll see a lot more mileage being wrung out of the internal combustion engine for a while.

That said, I think the fed standards are ridiculous and they'll be forced to relax them.

Agreed - they cannot mandate new technology to do what they want.
