lost access (didn't know autonews.com is a subscription site now) before i can copy/paste text and pics, but it definitely looks Vmotion-y. Interior design looks eerily similar to the new Accord too.

The current Altima is so good I struggle to think of significant improvements:

Maybe make all Altis handle like the SR would be one.
Maybe make the leather in the SL a bit thicker.
Maybe up the quality/feel of interior materials?

Fuel Economy which is currently within a stone's throw of a hybrid will likely only see minor improvement.

I hope they dont make the fuel tank smaller... that was always one of the cool features of this car the loooong unrefuelled range.

Other vehicles with similar mpg generally have noticably smaller tanks

From the spy shots there aren't any striking exterior changes. The interior could be amped up, as well as the suite of standard equipment. The 2018 Camry is setting the standard, with LED headlights w/auto high beam, smart cruise, all 4 windows 1-touch up and down, and other things standard across the lineup.

A good 7 or 8spd AT would transform that car. Hell, even a 6spd!

Maybe someone will figure out a way to retrofit the old 5 spd, I'd take that over this CVT trash !

I'm pretty sure the care would b slower and less efficient with the 5spd automatic lol

Seems another one was spotted. This looks like a lower trim, but the wheels seem bigger. And the horrible wheel gap makes a return. Maybe the AWD thing is true.

I just raced a new Tacoma from 0-70. Well my friend was driving my car and won the race by a half car to 70. It's not terribly slow.and I doubt the car would b quicker with a 5 spd auto. I test drive a 2018 camry 4cyl 2day also

Tacoma's are hardly a benchmark for speed, last review I saw had 0-60 time of close to 8 seconds !

That's exactly what I'm saying. You don't see anyone complainning that the Tacoma is 2 slow why should anyone complain that a 4cyl car that got me 46mpg going 2 my destination yesterday is any different. I also got 46 mpg going back the other way and this is over 100 miles. I had multiple people driving the car yesterday and even made a few videos. Nobody complained about the the cvt at all or the power on the road.

Everything time that Tacoma shifted it lost ground but at the top of its rev ranged it gained a few inches before it changed into the next gear and fell out of its powerband again.

I'm sure it's wonderful for the masses.
Gotta believe there was a damn good reason they bolted a 6 speed gear box to the GT-R's tho when they had the tecno marvel CVT's sitting on the shelf ...............

We are talking about a car for the masses here...

And WOW! 46 mpg! That is Hybrid territory!!! That is pretty amazing! I cry at the thought that I have to work to get 18-19mpg on my G37... and it literally only got half of that on my last road trip at 23mpg!

Yea, Nissan don't mess with a good thing! The 2.5L/CVT is amazingly efficient!

What we DON'T know is if the CVT really plays a part in that good fuel economy.

In other words, if an Altima were fitted with a modern automatic transmission like many other carmakers use - say, an Aisin 8-speed - would it do as well ... or maybe even better? After all, a CVT is essentially just a transmission that shifts for you, but does it steplessly. In doing so, it basically forces the car's engine into a narrow rpm range. A conventional automatic transmission driven in a similar mileage-conscious mode should yield as much economy. The geared transmission just allows more driver control than the pulley trans.

In any case, geared with as high a final gear ratio as the CVT, the highway mileage would be the same.
