Thread: Maximas are selling cheap!

    Maximas are selling cheap!

A friend who has a 2014 Max told me his dealer has "base" Maximas for as low as $29k.

Maybe it's a local thing, but I seldom see new-style Maximas on the street. Checking on Maxima sales for 2017 reveals it will do well to make 50,000 units in the U.S. for 2017.

I eagerly anticipated the arrival of the newly-restyled 2016 Max, and very seriously considered getting one. But my enthusiasm faded when I saw how large it was, and how confused the styling seemed to me. And then there was the elephant in the room - the CVT.

I looked and looked and sat in them and drove them and looked some more, and I just couldn't quite digest it. There are competing styling licks all over the car, and unless you go with oversized wheels and tires, the body looks disproportionately big on the wheels. The rear-end just doesn't mate well with the front-end IMO, and to me the car overall is a styling mess.

Maybe I'm not alone in my opinion, and Nissan is having to sell them at fire sale prices! (But it's a killer deal for those who like it!)

How is 29k a deal when the cars base price is 32k? Now I've seen Sr maxima go for 30k. That's a deal lol...

Yeah, I was about to say, $29k for a base Maxima is not anything to be surprised about.

I looked at & sat in one @ the dealer waiting on the G to get serviced. Lots to like but yet too many downers on the points that 'sell' me.
I'd be a player in the mid $40K range if it were RWD, had a V8 & a real tranny. As it sits today with the V6, FWD & CVT

I would always get the Infinit G over this. Sorry, Q50. It has always been the same. The Maxima sells for big bucks but add a couple of grand and you can get a G. Maybe $4K more base to base. Just well worth it, to me.

In real life with similiar options the maxima is atleast 10k cheaper with more style and similar acceleration at speed

The list price for a 2017 S is $32,610, and with destination that goes to $33,495.

Peeling $4,500 off the list without havng to deal is pretty strong for a Nissan. When I priced them months ago, they were mid-to upper-30's list nicely-appointed, and the dealers were all telling me they didn't have much markup to deal with.

My friend tells me he was quoted some more discount off that, and he is still thinking hard about a trade.

I saw WAY more Maximas in Hawaii last week than I've ever seen around here. Then I realized they are RENTAL CARS. Rental car companies that used to buy Checy Malibus and Ford Tauruses are now buying up Maximas for rentals because of the price cuts.

I hate to see a nice car like the Maxima become a rental mule, but apparently Nissan is trying to get their numbers up by selling to Thrifty and Alamo Rent-a-Car.

I know it's not always going to be the case, but I would imagine that some of the people that rented a Maxima would come out of it with it on their mind when buying their next car, that otherwise may not have considered it. That interior, even in its base trim, is really nice and I can imagine a lot of people being impressed with it. If I were Nissan I would actually target destinations like Hawaii to get cars like the Maxima on rental lots. Sounds strange, but I'm looking at it as a sowing seed kinda thing.

I don't disagree, and the Nissan marketing people might be thinking that, too. I would have been happy to have one for my rental there, but I did okay with an Altima.
